Pick a BibleProject video on the book of the Bible that you wish to study more of. After watching their video, what are some key takeaways about the context of the book? 1. Who wrote the book? 2. What was the historical context of the book? 3. What are some key takeaways from what you learned?
The Book of Genesis Genesis is basically the beginning of everything and was wrote by Moses. It talks about how God created the world, how sin entered, and how God started building His people through people like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. It also explains how they ended up in Egypt. Takeaways: - God is the Creator and everything belongs to Him - Sin broke the world, but God still pursues people with grace - God keeps His promises even when people are imperfect
2 Timothy 1:13 says, "What you heard from me, keep as a pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus." We learned that "pattern" means "prototype" or "outline," which is what Paul wanted for his disciple Timothy. What is your current pattern of Biblical study? Be as honest as possible, no judgment!
My current pattern consists of reading a few chapters of a book then breaking down the context, setting, the author, who they were speaking to, etc. Then I would bring my interpretation back to my spiritual leaders and watch YouTube for a deeper dive.
The “what’s in it for me” mindset had me more focused on what I could get rather than what I could give. For example, I stopped going to men’s groups because I carried the mentality of, “I’m good—I don’t need anything.” Repentance looked like showing up with a servant’s heart instead. I began attending the group with the mindset of, What can I contribute or share that might help a brother today? I realized I wasn’t there just to receive a word but to share one—and that shift was deeply fulfilling, because you never know how something you say might encourage someone else. God doesn’t always directly answer prayers, but He may send someone to be the answer. By focusing on adding value to the group, I left each meeting feeling energized and grateful for the gift of community.
@Jared Martin Man, I really appreciate you sharing this. That shift you described from focusing only on tasks to actually caring for the people you lead is powerful. It shows real maturity and growth, not just as a leader but as a believer. I love how you’re stepping into servant leadership, because that’s exactly what Christ modeled for us. It’s encouraging to hear how the Spirit has been shaping your heart, and it challenges me to think about how I can be more intentional in the way I serve and walk alongside others too. Also employees feel more inclined to stay at the business since they feel appreciated and seen. Great post!
Describe a moment when good doctrine "was like rain" for your life. How did that good doctrine bring clarity or healing to your life over time? If it's difficult for you to think of a moment, then what doctrine were you introduced to in class today that helped bring clarity to an area of your life?
@Cassidie Higbee Great share! People in the world would see that as crazy but Kingdom people believe you must be equally yoked. Following Christ fully ended the relationship, but trusting God and His word is building you up Christ-like. Plus you’ll end up aligning with someone who is equally yoked so it works out at the end 👏🏾
@Devin Bean Forgiving others regardless of the circumstances takes a huge weight off a person’s shoulders and give it to God. I also love the grace you showed your parents, acknowledging that they are figuring life out like the rest of us. Very powerful perspective!
Referring to the Scriptures listed at the end of the PowerPoint, what Scripture is the most challenging for you to accept? Why? After you reply to this discussion, feel free to reply to another student's response as well!
"But even if you should suffer for righteousness' sake, you will be blessed Have no fear of them, nor be troubled, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy." (1 Pet. 3:14-15) This verse is most challenging for me to accept because I enjoy relating with people in society. Following the Word makes me stand out. Monitoring my music, social media and tv shows are healthy for my soul but can be looked at as stern or excessive by the world. I’ve learned it’s okay to be different knowing that the world offers temporary pleasure but the Word is satiating and everlasting.
