Boasts and Brags, Who Has Got One? And Other News!
Hello Backyard Dog Training Matters Friends! Let's celebrate together! I know we've talked some in the group about what we have done this weekend, but let's just BRAG IT UP! What successes have you experienced during the last few weeks? Dog stuff, life stuff, if you're happy about it, share it with us! I'm working on another challenge for the group. It's been suggested to me that we try a scavenger hunt or bingo card, and I think that would be totally fun! It would still be dog-training related; you'd be, for example, doing a sit in front of something blue, or paws up on something red, or doing a trick at a public park... stuff like that. If you'd like to play, let me know if 1. you'd be okay with taking a picture of each of the things to prove that you've done it (maybe just a picture of you and the dog at the park, for example, to make that easier), or if that would be an impediment and you'd rather just take everyone's word for it and 2. if you'd prefer certificates of completion for everyone, or you don't care about that and you just want to play. I'd also like to remind you that if you need a gift for a dog friend or professional, please consider my coloring books on Amazon! I've created two: "Dog Agility Coloring Book & Story: Which Gnome & Dog Will Win Today?" and "When a Dragon is Your Veterinarian" and you can find them both through my author profile at https://www.amazon.com/author/brennafender. Let's hear about your training and trialing successes! Have a great week!

@Brenna Fender Yes we would have a thread & post the pictures/videos as we do them. Or edit together a slideshow video to submit at the end.

@Brenna Fender haha thank you!! I was determined to get his Master title at our local trials on Saturday. He needed 3 legs! The Friday trial was 2 hours away in CT, we did a triple Q there & then did just Master classes at our local trial for the final 2 legs. The agility trial was on Sunday in NH 1.5 hours away (we go there ALL the time) & we saw people there that were also at the rally trial the day before 😅 I'm just a little crazy & tired now 🤣🤣🤣
My Spring Training Group is Open for Registration!
The spring session of Backyard Training Matters, A Weekly Training Group, is up for sale on Clean Run! Join now and you can weigh in on what types of things my courses should focus on this session! I made this Backyard Dog Training Matters Skool group originally as a place to continue the conversations and connections formed in my Clean Run training group that meets twice a year. Many of my repeat students are in this Skool now, so I wanted to let them, and everyone else, know that the course is open. I'd love to see anyone who'd like to work on their agility skills consider joining us for 6-weeks of agility training and fun! Thank you in advance for your patience in reading about my course. There's, of course, no pressure on you to register for the course. This Skool group will remain open and free of charge -- it is separate from Backyard Training Matters in the Clean Run Learning Center. I just want to tell you about what I'm doing that's available. If you'd like to share it with your friends, I'd be super happy for you to do that! Here's my spiel for those who don't know me and don't know about this Clean Run course: ***I may not be well known as an agility competitor, but I'm an expert in designing small-space agility training courses (I've written two great-selling books on this topic!), I've got a great eye for handling analysis, and I know how to create a positive and supportive coaching environment.*** If you train agility skills frequently at home, you will find that you make much faster progress toward your agility goals than if you only train once a week at class. *Don't have a lot of space? *Don't know what to train? *Don't have the motivation or support you need to get to work? Backyard Training Matters with ME -- Brenna Fender -- can help! This weekly training group is a unique opportunity to improve your skills in a supportive, friendly environment—all while training in your backyard! Each lesson takes a variety of challenges from upper-level agility courses and replicates some of these challenges in an approximately 40' x 40' space.

I'm in! Very excited!!! Def want to work on distance & other challenges with Brady. Not sure how much I can do with Tali unfortunately (she still quits when I try to do agility stuff in backyard) but hoping to include the puppy Dunkin maybe on some small sections of the sequences with no bars & tunnel 😊

@Brenna Fender yes thank you that would be great!! Maybe if I just do the short sequence, jackpot her & end it there would help.
Fetch Novice Testing Example
Parker and I entered a Fetch trial last week and qualified on both rounds. It was super fun and we can't wait for our chance to try Intermediate. It's similar, with more distractions and a 50 foot throw instead of 30. I've attached my two Q videos here so you can have an idea. It's not a great view because I was worried he'd be stressed and I didn't want my tripod to, say, blow over into the ring or something. :) Anyway, if anyone wants to talk about it, I'm happy to. I'm really looking forward to training the more complicated levels. https://youtu.be/1XBz_NsYDt4 https://youtu.be/C6m7EqIS32g

Brady has 1 leg of his intermediate! They moved the second round to a smaller matted area & had to pre place the toy (so he couldn't see me throw it) he got confused & distracted so we didn't pass that time. There is one trial in June I'm hoping to get his Intermediate & maybe try Advanced! Have to really train for that one.
Congratulations to the ParCourse Certificants!
Congratulations to Lori with Doby and Drover, and Emily with Brady and Tali for completing the ParCourse Challenge! Their certificates are in the classroom. Thanks for participating! It's time to get this group hopping! What should we do next? A similar type of challenge? The last one wasn't well-received, so I think maybe we need to change things up. I'd really like to see more conversations here, so I do think something like a weekly conversation topic would be cool. What do you think about that? What about some different exercises here and there for different sports? What do you want from this group? Just for fun, I'm attaching a coloring page that's available for free on my Buy Me a Coffee Shop. There are several free things there that you might be interested in. Check it out! Here's the link: https://buymeacoffee.com/brennafender/extras Thanks! Brenna

A group I'm in on FB used to do these fun "scavenger hunt" type challenges. There would be a list (sometimes it was a BINGO card) of different places/colors/objects you would either take a picture or do a certain trick with. So something like that would be fun. Any kind of trick, agility or rally challenge would be fun!! Or new sports some of us haven't tried. We could do a weekly training/trial thread where we post videos of what we've been doing with our dogs & get comments/opinions. A weekly or monthly "brag" thread where we can share achievements or titles we earned.

@Barb Costello here are some examples. We had so much fun with these!
What doggy things are you doing this weekend?
Any plans? I'm doing some conformation training with my puppy and I need to figure out how to enter a Fetch trial! I guess I need to read the rules first so I am sure I have what I need and then enter. :) Hope you all are well!

We did an agility trial today! Brady had another perfect day, 4 out of 4 runs clean. He was such a good boy - the courses were fun & a good challenge today. Tali's standard run was SO close, JWW was a bit too tricky for her & she got distracted a couple times. My goal with her is always that she smiling at the end which she was 😊 Tomorrow we have agility class in the AM & then it's Easter Sunday
