Mid-February Already! Newsletter and More
Hi Everyone! I just wanted to send out a quick note because today I wrote about behavior modification, including a quick summary of B.F. Skinner's theory, in my newsletter, "My Phone Booth Phase." It is not a newsletter about dog training, but this week I wanted to talk about how we modify behavior in animals and people. It's a free weekly mailer, but you don't have to subscribe to read the article. It's called No Drama Llama. You can find it here: https://myphoneboothphase.substack.com/p/no-drama-llama In other news, some of you asked about the February Challenge. I am going to do a March Challenge, but start it early. I hope to post it later this week. How are you all? What have you been working on and what's ahead for you? I helped a friend at a conformation show again this past weekend and poorly handled a little dog that really didn't want to hang out with me, but it was fun anyway. I also got to see Fetch competition at this AKC show and I'm excited about it! I started training my Whippet immediately and I need to see when he can make his debut. It seems so fun! Have you competed in Fetch? Thanks for being here! Brenna

Brady & I competed in agility this past weekend, the courses were awesome. He was perfect aside from a knocked bar in JWW. We will have to try again for his MACH on Sunday, we need just 5 points! 🀞 We also finished our final task for the trick dog competition! This is our entry: https://youtu.be/9R23IKpeXxQ?feature=shared The "match to sample" I had given up on as he was having too much trouble, but last minute decided to give it a try again & he got all of them right in a row!! Guess he just needed a break. Also Fetch is so much fun, Brady has his Novice title & one leg of Intermediate. The first two levels are pretty straight forward but Advanced & Retriever looks like it requires a lot of training!
How's your weekend going?
Are you doing anything doggy this weekend? Training? Trialing? Hiking? Playing? What's going on for you? I've been evaluating runs for being in my new Semi-Private Lessons class over on Clean Run and I'm designing courses for that, but my own dogs only got a good ball playing session today. I'm not sure what tomorrow brings for us. I've been working with these flat rubber targets I just got from Clean Run, plus I very much need to finish one of my Whippet's Intermediate Trick Title. :) Hope you all are well and reasonably warm!

We have been at trials the past few weekends so we are taking a break this weekend, which is good because it's single digits with wind chills in the negative πŸ₯Ά We are staying inside working on finishing up our final task for the International Trick Dog Competition. Next Sunday we have a trial where Brady has a chance to earn his first MACH, we need 28 points 🀞

@Kristine Hammar thank you!!!!
December Canine Parkour Anywhere Challenge!
For December, Brenna graciously invited me to offer a Parkour Challenge! With the recent introduction of the new "Anywhere Tracks" in All Dogs Parkour, I thought it would be fun to offer a Challenge where you could create a Level 1 Anywhere Regular Track entry that could - if you so choose - be entered for a title. So, the first part of this challenge is to create 8 video clips of your dog performing All Dogs Parkour Exercises. The ones that I have chosen to teach for this Challenge are: Get On 2 Front Feet, Get On 4 Feet, Go Under, Between, Jump Clean, Go Around, and Figure 8. If you are familiar with All Dogs Parkour, you are more than welcome to use other Exercises, but I am only teaching these Exercises as part of the Challenge. You can use any items that you have for your dog to perform these Exercises, but for the Get On 4 Feet, please keep the item under the height of your dog's elbow. If the item is elbow height or higher, you do have to spot/support, and I am not including instruction on that skill for this challenge. (Again, if you are familiar with ADP and you know how to spot/support, you are welcome to use something higher and do so). Your dog does not have to perform all 7 of the Exercises. For Level 1, four "repeats" are allowed. Just remember that a "repeat" has to be performed on/with a different item. (Figure 8 can only be performed once). I provide a general description of this Challenge in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yaPcYpf0ep8 And, in this video, I teach the seven Exercises. (I can provide this in typed form, if any of you prefer that). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1VZvCWWp18 In the Anywhere Track, "Off-List" variations of Exercises are allowed, and I address that in the video. As you create your videos, feel free to post them in this forum, and I will give you feedback. I will let you know if any changes are needed for the clip to meet All Dogs Parkour submission criteria.

Hi @Kristine Hammar I submitted a registration for Tali (I am going to do one for my other dog as well) but there was no spot to put the "Backyard" code. Where do I put that?
