How should pilots be trained?
Hi, I hope you’re all doing well. Now that things have calmed down again, I’d like to continue being here for you and help with your careers, questions, or just have some good conversations. Here in Norway, one of the major flight schools is facing bankruptcy, and it made me think about something: Flight schools often rely on students who can afford the high tuition fees. If you have the money, you can become a pilot, whether you’re truly suited for the role or not. On the other hand, Norway offers an ab-initio pilot training program funded by the government. You have to pass some tests, and if you do, the entire ATPL training is covered, with no bonding or commitments afterward. Both approaches have their pros and cons, but I’m curious what you think: Should more countries offer pilot training through universities, like other higher-education programs, or should it remain the responsibility of commercial flight schools?

That is interesting, I didn't realize Norway offered funding through the government. I can definitely see why there are some pros/cons. I've seen some young teens or 20-something's who would learn quickly, but simply can't afford it. For them, government funding would be ideal. I like the idea that you were able to give more lessons where needed and they could train frequently and consistently.
