Skool Community Changes
I'm terrified and afraid where cybersecurity is going...We need change...😶 After 6 months of interviews, reading CVs, asking questions and we still didn't sign a new member. Am I too picky? Maybe...or maybe the industry is changing way too fast and it's harder to find talent. People are not using AI correctly and they outsource every thinking and decision to it. Even experienced security professionals rellaying on it too heavily. Initially this community should have been primarly for people already in cyber, but it will change...it has to change. I'm still going to cover advanced topics. At the same time, in the upcoming months, I will heavily focus content on helping people get into cyber. We need more talented people. Hackers are not going to wait and this is important to me. If you have any ideas for improvement, please let me know. 🙂 If you need help, reach out. I'm here for you. The skool community was renamed, so if you have it bookmarked, don't forget to change it. 🙂

I understand the frustration, but maybe as manager you should focus more on hiring people with strong character, curiosity, and a genuine interest in CS rather than expecting every skill to already be there. Technical skills can be learned within a few months if someone has the right mindset and willingness to grow. What's much harder to teach is critical thinking, integrity, and the desire to continuously learn. I believe there are a lot of smart people out there simply waiting for an opportunity to prove themselves. Perhaps the industry has become too focused on finding the "perfect" candidate instead of investing in people with potential. AI is a great tool, but it should enhance human thinking, not replace it. We still need professionals who know how to question, analyze, and make decisions independently. :)

This is exactly why I like the ITIL framework. It encourages managers to develop talent from within the company and give employees opportunities to grow, which is what you're doing now with your analyst. I believe that if this approach had been used from the beginning, you probably wouldn't have spent six months searching externally. Of course, it's easier to say that in hindsight, especially since you were initially looking for a senior profile. I hope the final interview goes well tomorrow and that you find the right person for your team.
