Thankfulness Is an Act of Faith
Thankfulness IS an act of faith. Our working definition of faith is "confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." As we prepare for tomorrow, I recognize we may all be in different stages and different seasons, enduring different obstacles, celebrating different wins. But the underlying thread is that thankfulness is an act of faith. It is so easy to be thankful and to be happy for the things that are tangible, the things that we can touch, the things that we CAN see. But true thankfulness is in the hope. It is in the wait. It is in the faith that what we've been praying for, what we have been anticipating, what we have been petitioning and asking God for, even if we don't see it yet, our heart posture is that of thanks. And looking at this scripture, our father is a true father, and a true parent prepares their child. A true parent, of course, would love to shield their child from the harshness, the realities of life. But a true parent is going to give a child all of the tools that they need so that they can function in life. The scripture says, in all things give thanks. He's encouraging His believers to have an attitude of gratitude in every circumstance. Now that doesn't mean there won't be negative events we'll have to endure - we live in a fallen world. It doesn't mean that there won't be bumps and bruises along the journey. Despite all that, He's saying...STILL, in all things, I am going to thank you. I can see that your hand is in this. I am going to trust you. So this morning, wherever you are, whatever you're doing, I pray that you are in a space that you can give thanks. Thanks for what has already come. Because if we just thanked him for the past, that alone is enough. But in this season as well, too, we're grateful 🙏🏾 & thankful ❤️ for what is to come. I hope you're blessed.
