Hiring / Co-Founder Search: New Discussion Tab
How I became the Chief Marketing Officer: I want to share a story with you—because it changed my life. A few years ago, I was broke and driving Uber to survive. I had just come back to Europe from San Francisco, where I’d raised money for a startup that flopped. I was trying to figure out what was next. One day, while browsing the App Store (as one does when procrastinating life), I stumbled across an app called Reflectly. It was beautiful. Genuinely well-designed, clever idea… but I could tell it wasn’t reaching its full potential. At the time, I had already launched a few of my own (failed) app projects, so I had learned a few things the hard way. I decided to write them an email. No pitch. No ask. Just love: “Hey, I love your app. Here are a few ideas that might help you grow...” Minutes later, I got a reply from the CEO. Turns out—they were based a few blocks away from me in Copenhagen. We jumped on a call. Talked for hours. By the end of that conversation, he offered me a job. First employee. Head of Growth. Generous equity. I want to emphasise, at this point my “experience” was a lot of failed apps that never made any money. A few weeks later, we turned on monetization. Reflectly exploded. We hit 10 million users, acquired 10 companies, and I became Chief Marketing Officer. A few years later, I sold my shares, moved to Costa Rica, became a barefoot jungle hippie… then got bored, came back to Europe, and lost all the money again in my next startup (but that’s a story for another time ). Why am I sharing this? Because I want to help you create your story: Fact 1: It’s ridiculously hard to hire the right people in the app world. Good growth marketers, engineers, media buyers, designers—they’re unicorns. Fact 2: It’s just as hard to find a co-founder. Whether you need someone technical, someone to handle growth, or someone to make things beautiful—finding the right person to build with feels like dating during a zombie apocalypse. So… to try to make this a little easier, I’ve created a new Discussion tab: Hiring / Co-Founder Search.
