This light is a symbol of faith and gratitude.

I am not sure this is the "nicest" example, but it stands out in my mind. The reason I value the experience is because I really thought about my feelings and believed that I deserved to honor them and myself. Many years ago I had a boyfriend, and everyone with whom we associated knew we were seeing each other. At the same time, I was carpooling to school with a woman in our social community, and it came back to me that she had secretly been seeing my boyfriend. Of course, he was equally at fault, and I stopped seeing him. However, from then on I refused to carpool with her. When I informed her and the other members of the carpool that I would no longer be riding or driving with them, they questioned me about my reason. I considered all of the possible excuses/reasons I could offer, but I decided to go with the truth - which I considered "the high road" for myself, if not to them. My reason, I said, was because I didn't like her. She had knowingly and secretly started a relationship with him when she knew I was seeing him and that I didn't think she was a very nice person. Everyone was shocked that I would be so upfront and mean by saying I didn't like her, but I felt strong and proud of myself for having spoken my truth, simply, without hiding and without being catty. Even you all might think I was mean, but I still believe that I said what was my honest feeling, and that felt really good and made me feel brave.

I feel like I gave my most authentic, sincere feeling and for that reason I didn't/don't see it as a judgment at all. I am not saying it was a nice thing to say, but any other comment on my part would have been inauthentic, more judgmental and possibly even less kind. I definitely appreciate both of your perspectives, however, and will consider my options carefully if faced with something like this in the future. 💞
