Welcome to Tres Golpes Bachata
I built this because Dominican bachata isn’t always easy to find. Most cities don’t have it. Most socials lean modern or sensual. Even online, you usually have to go out of your way to find anything traditional. So this is my way of putting it all in one place. I teach classes during the week here in New York, but not everyone can make it in person. And even if you do, sometimes you just want to review things on your own time. That’s what this is for. Right now, the main thing here is the class recaps. I teach Wednesday and Thursday, and then the next day I record the combo and any notes from class and put it here so you can go through it at your own pace. If you’re just getting started, go to Level 0 — El Campo. There’s a video there now that breaks down the history, instruments, and structure of the music so you understand what you’re listening to. This is the direction I’m building toward. Everything here follows how I believe Dominicans learn bachata through life, and how I grew up around it. That’s what I’m trying to recreate here. The progression will look like this: Level 1 — La Cocina → learning rhythm and basic steps the same way you grow up around the music without thinking about it, just by hearing it and feeling it at home Level 2 — El Patio → dancing with a partner in low-pressure settings, like family parties, where you’re learning connection without overthinking it Level 3 — La Calle → going out, adding variation, expression, and personality, learning how to play with the music and the person in front of you Level 4 — La Sala → slowing everything down, being more intentional, understanding the music, and doing more with less I’ll be building these out over time. It takes time, especially for partnerwork, but this is the path. For now, you’ll see new content every week through the class recaps. That’s the best place to follow along while everything else gets built out. Use what’s here, stay consistent, and build at your own pace. If you have something you’re working on or stuck on, you can drop it here or reach out.
