Need for Explanation/Refutation: David Wood's Hateful Speech on the Al-Zutt Hadith
Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh brothers and sisters, I'm seeking scholarly insight and refutations regarding the Al-Zutt hadith, which is a frequent target of criticism by Christian apologists, who use it to spread hateful and defamatory narratives about the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). Specifically, the hadith in question is often cited from Musnad Ahmad(though sometimes other compilations like Jami’ at-Tirmidhi) and details an incident where the Prophet (ﷺ) met with a group of Jinn. The part being maliciously distorted is the Arabic phrase, "fa-ja’alu yarkabuˉna Rasuˉl Allaˉh (ﷺ)," which literally relates to the Jinn "riding" or "mounting" the Prophet (ﷺ). I would appreciate explanations or refutations on the following points: 1. Authenticity (Sahih/Da’if): What is the consensus among Hadith scholars (muhaddithuˉn) regarding the authenticity (ṣiḥḥah) of this particular narration's chain ( isnaˉd)? Is it considered Sahih (authentic), Ḥasan (good), Da’ıˉf (weak), or Mawḍuˉ’  (fabricated)? I'm particularly interested in the ratings by scholars like Shaykh Aḥmad Shaˉkir or Shu’ayb al-Arna’uˉṭ. 2. Linguistic Meaning and Context: What is the correct, established linguistic interpretation of the phrase "fa-ja’alu yarkabuˉna" in classical Arabic or in the context of Ḥadıˉth? Scholars often explain this as an idiom meaning the Jinn were crowding around the Prophet (ﷺ) with intense eagerness to listen to the Quran, and that it is further supported by a verse in the Qur’an (Surah Al-Jinn 72:19). Can someone provide a detailed linguistic or Tafsıˉr (exegesis) based explanation? 3. Refuting the Defamation: How can a Muslim clearly and effectively address the perverse and baseless claims being propagated by critics like David Wood using this hadith? Understanding the scholarly position—both on the classification of the hadith and the correct linguistic and contextual interpretation—is vital for refuting this type of hateful and misleading rhetoric.

@Muhammed Ali Okay, bismillahirrahmaanirraheem. I've no time to give you a big response right now as it is late but answering your first questions: 1. Shaykh al Arna'ut says in his tahqeeq (let's translate it as checking) of the Musnad of Imaam Ahmad that the sanad is da'eef, because of the one narrating the Hadith from Ibn Mas'ood, 'Amr al Bikali (or Bukali or Bakali) never met Ibn Mas'ood as Imaam Bukhari said in at Tarikh as Saghir. Imaam Ibn Katheer also said this Hadith is very very weird in its matn. 2. The best idea thing is to open a dictionary for this. Ibn Al Atheer has a book named 'An Nihaayah', he explained rakiba, yarkubu, yarkuboon as tabi'a, yatba'u, yatba'oon, that means following: 3. I don't see any problems in the Hadith to be honest. Only someone jaahil of the Arabic language can see here problems. That's why I advice everyone to learn Arabic, to a far level. Write the knowledge and then memorise it, and the knowledge you can find on Da'wah channels like the Muslim Lantern, One Message Foundation etc. (those 2 are my favourite probably)

'Aqeedah is so important
Your 'aqeedah (creed) is very, very, very important. Someone with the wrong 'aqeedah can be outside of the fold of islaam. But don't stress. Alhamdulillaah learning 'aqeedah is VERY VERY VERY simple. It isn't a lot, and it isn't difficult. So learn the correct creed with the following books: 1. Thalatha al Usool 2. al Qawa'id al arba' 3. Kitaab At Tawheed 4. Kashf ash Shubuhaat 5. Nawaaqid al Islaam Those 5 books are foundational. They are all about Tawheed and shirk and kufr, so every muslims must know these to be able to avoid shirk and to uphold Tawheed. Estimated time to read them: 1 week. After that learn these books: 1. Al 'Aqeedah Al Waasitiyyah by Ibn Taymiyyah 2. Lum'ah Al I'tiqaad by Ibn Qudaamah 3. 'Aqeedah Ar Raaziyayn (a book in which everything has ijmaa' (consensus) of the early muslims, the salaf) Especially the last book is VERY important. How big is it? 1/2/3 pages. Estimated time to read them: 1 week. After that there are a lot of books of the Salaf (early muslims) and of the khalaf (the later muslims) about the right 'aqeedah, but you at the beginning stage don't need that. If you want to advance learn Arabic. For questions you can ofcourse send a message.
