Limited Third Person POV vs. Omniscient Third Person POV
I'll "BE AN OPEN BOOK" starting next week in @Krista Brea KDP Publishing Community because they are all into books over there. I will share everything on how I started the process. I won't be talking film in this post on Krista's site. I want your opinion of what I've been working on for the past two years. It's amazing what I learned already from one beta reader! 1. Limited Third Person POV - In limited third person, the narrator sticks inside one character’s head at a time. Example: Jimmy tiptoed down the hallway. The smell made his stomach twist. What on earth did the chef put in that pudding? Here we only know what Jimmy knows. We do not know: - what the chef is thinking - what Lady Poodington secretly plans - what the narrator thinks of everyone It’s like the camera is sitting on Jimmy’s shoulder. A lot of mysteries use this because it protects the clues. 1. Omniscient Third Person POV - Omniscient means “all-knowing narrator.” The narrator can tell us anything about anyone. Example: Jimmy tiptoed down the hallway, unaware that Chef Excrementi was already watching from the kitchen door. The chef smiled. He knew exactly what was in the pudding. Now we know things Jimmy does not know. The narrator can jump between: - Jimmy - the chef - Lady Poodington - the hotel itself
