Brooks Brothers Tag
Brooks Brothers label on Blue Blazer sleave. Should I snipe it off?
Which Coat?
I am 77 and six feet tall. I am and looking for advice on a coat that fits my style without screaming “cowboy.” I’ve been considering a short duster or field duster, maybe even a jean jacket—but I’m not sure a jean jacket would be appropriate for business appointments over my blue blazer. For context: I usually wear a solid shirt, as per Antonio, due to my age, a straw flat hat (without ridges), a bolo tie with a gold horse (to cover my turkey neck), and blue chino pants from Brooks Brothers. I already own a cashmere full-length overcoat, a classic trench coat—but none of those feel right with my new western-leaning look. I also have a sharp leather jacket, and I do not need a Harrington. What would you recommend I consider that would look sharp and professional, but still feel true to my style?
Which Comfortable Western Style Sneakers
Take a look at my photo. This is my standard business look as a 77 year old, top gun, Realtor still going strong and loving it. Solid Brooks Brothers, shirts as per Antonio, due to my age. When I lost 20lbs, I got a goose neck. So I closed up the shirt and started wearing a bolo. The gold horse is a hit and makes me somewhat comfortble with the bolo. Hence, now that I look western, a western style flat top straw hat, suggested by this community, completed my attire with blue, Brook Brothers chinos. However, I wear very comfortable, classy blue and white checked SMS tennis shoes. And now I want to wear something very comfortable but a bit more formal and a bit of western style. Occasionally, for very casual occasions, I wear actual moccasins. I sold my 2023 Camry, and depending on the appointment, I drive a cute 2003 Mercedes hardtop convertible in the summer and a slightly beat up 2000 Toyota 4 runner in the winter.

The hat also gets a lot of comments and the SMS shoes are $250.

I stopped wearing the Anson red, white and blue belt and don't wear a belt buckle as I don't want to be percieved as a cowboy.
Which Cowboy Hat For a City Slicker?
I am 77 years old, 6’ tall, and live near Denver Colorado. A western state with cowboys in rural areas. Which is about 85% of the state’s geographic area. Do not want to pretend I am a cowboy. Will wear it with jeans, an Ariat shirt, and a generic belt buckle as my casual outfit. Maybe skip the belt buckle? Low key, but do not want the hat to attract additional attention like a Taco hat would. One that the cowboys would respect. Probaby tan in color. Thank you

@Devin Christensen You just gave the reason not to buy a cowboy hat. Thanks

Thank you so much. I got one that is less than 3.5% and a flat top. Younger women love it and men comment. Women more my age, simply look. Bu the responses are awesome. I added it to my profile
Extra Casual Tie
Hi, I'm 77 and often in the public eye. After reviewing a recent city council presentation where I appeared as the parade chair, I noticed I looked older than I felt—and the camera highlighted a bit of a “goose neck” appearance. I considered wearing a scarf, but that is out of place in our local culture. The next morning, I tried buttoning my top collar button, and it did a good job minimizing the issue. A regular tie would solve it—but that is too formal for my day-to-day activities. I’m now exploring other options. One idea is a bolo tie—something more relaxed than formalwear, but still sharp. I'm open to other suggestions too—maybe something stylish, dignified, and appropriate for someone my age and role. Have you seen any good alternatives? Ed
