💚 Meet John — Our Go-To Tax & CPA Guy
I’m really excited to officially introduce @John Hannum to the Common Cents community! John is a good friend of mine and someone I trust when it comes to taxes, money, and all the stuff most of us were never taught (and usually try to avoid until the last minute 😅). He’s a CPA and tax specialist who works with individuals and business owners, but what I love most about John is that he’s: - super approachable - really good at explaining things in a way that actually makes sense - and genuinely wants people to understand their money, not feel intimidated by it - John will be our tax & CPA specialist inside Common Cents, and we’re planning our first workshop with him soon (details coming!). 👉 In the meantime: - If you have tax questions, post them in the community and tag John - If there’s something you’ve always been confused about (write-offs, investing taxes, side income, W-2 vs 1099, etc.), drop it here - Chances are, if you’re wondering it, someone else is too — and we can all learn together This is exactly why I wanted to build this space — so we can bring in the right people, ask real questions, and stop feeling like we’re behind or “should already know this.” Fun Fact: John really loves wine too! Please help me give John a big warm welcome below 👇 Really glad to have you here with us 💚

Hi everyone! I’m Mikayla and I’m here to learn about investing and just being more confident in my finances all around. As an entrepreneur I would also like to learn more about how I can maximize my tax breaks. Right now is ground zero for me so looking forward to growing with y’all!

There are so many tax advantages as an entrepreneur! You can expenses everything from your phone bill, home internet, your car, business meals, business related travel, home office. One thing that really helped me was finding a great CPA who helped me realize what I can deduct. I have an excel sheet that I can send over to you if the things my CPA advised me to expense. My CPA works with mainly with healthcare workers so i don’t think he would benefit you. @Hanna Huang you owned a business, got a good CPA?
Becoming an expert investor
Hi all, my name is Artem and I am a level I civil engineer working at my first job in Santa Ana. On top of that, a USA beach volleyball Deaflympian! I were two cochlear implants on the day-to-day basis and I also know ASL to communicate. One of my dream goals is to become an expert investor - as a kid, I always dreamed on being on shark tank since I love seeing engineering and business come to play with my family. I am here to work together as a team, to learn more on investing in stocks, trades, crypto, and fully grasp the understanding of what today’s market is like or the projected market in the future. I believe in each one of you and together, let’s go as high as we can as the sky is the limit!

Hi Artem! Love your enthusiasm to learn! I’m trying to keep up with the changing market as well and it’s so hard because there is so much information out there. One of the sectors I have my eye on now is AI hardware/ AI infrastructure/ nuclear energy / robotics. Despite it all, my biggest gain has been from just simple VOO 😅

Hi Mariyam! So glad to have you here! I’m always finding ways to reduce my taxable income also. Do you own a business?
Wealthfront
Good morning everyone! Have you all heard of Wealthfront? If you haven’t, I suggest looking into it as another way to begin an investment account that works for you. It’s easy to setup and their algorithms create the portfolio for you based on what your risk level is after answering prompts. We set this up for ourselves and when our girls were born ( 529 college fund ). Reach out if this is something that peaks your curiosity.

@Vincent Wong how is a sep Ira different from a solo 401k? I have an scorp and have a solo 401k (Im the only employee/employer) which I max out as the employee and can also contribute as the employer to decrease my taxable income. @Mikayla Amber Samiano this might be a good topic for you too since you’re self employed as well!
