My dog, Pingo De Leite, and I have just moved to Madrid. It is incumbent on me to come up to speed in Spanish as quickly as possible, both for communication and respect for those whose country we are adopting.

I wanted to share something that happened and maybe encourage you on your journey. I was at a government office filling out some forms and there was a Spanish speaking woman there with her daughter trying to file some paperwork. She spoke no English and the clerk did not speak Spanish. I told her I spoke some Spanish and asked her if I could help. Both she and the clerk were very grateful that with my limited Spanish I could help resolve the situation. I came away feeling happy that I was able to use what I studied almost a year for to help others and so grateful be able to use it in real life.

You are in a taxi in Madrid, ready to head back home/hotel... Tell the driver where you are going and ask the price. 93%. That last sentence was the longest one in the course so far and is a very good test and challenge of one's understanding of es, esto, y esta. I will admit I had to review that one sentence and repeat it many times before I took the test. If this is a preview of what is to come, it will not only become more challenging but will quickly speed up one's journey to conversational spanish. I did learn that Menu in Spain is (la) Carta. In my neck of the woods, among Latin American Speakers, it is (el) Menú, so I answered to myself both ways.
