The spread of plant pathogens via work tools and the decline of trees and hedges due to it.
Hey guys as arborists, we regularly move between trees, properties and clients using the same cutting equipment. But how often do we stop and think about what we might be transferring between them on our tools? I’m exploring the development of a plant-derived sanitising spray for hedge trimmers, secateurs, pruning saws and other cutting equipment, designed to help reduce the spread of plant pathogens between trees. Think of it like a hairdresser sanitising their scissors between clients, but for arborists and horticulturists. The concept uses ingredients derived from thyme, oregano and cinnamon, with a focus on developing something practical to use in the field and compatible with metal tools. I’m currently in the development and testing stage and would love to hear from other arborists, horticulturists and plant health professionals.
