Leads when starting out.
Not sure if this will help anyone, but I’ve seen a few people asking about getting leads so thought I’d share what’s worked for me so far. I started out doing carpentry and got a recommendation for two bathrooms and a water closet (main and ensuite). At the time I only had about five weeks of work lined up, so I decided to take the leap into bathroom renovations. From there, the main way I’ve built things up—without really anyone knowing me—has been through lead services and supplier relationships. I signed up to Bizzo (similar to Jim’s leads for bathrooms). Basically, if franchisees don’t take a lead, it gets passed on if you’ve got it turned on. It’s around $65 per lead depending on competition. This year alone I’ve picked up 3 bathrooms from it, plus I’ve got another bigger job coming through (main bathroom, ensuite, and another smaller one). The other big thing has been building relationships with suppliers. I spent time at Beaumont Tiles just chatting and getting to know the team. Once I asked if they get many people looking for bathroom renos, they started sending people my way. In the last couple of weeks alone I’ve had about 5 leads from that, and I’ve already quoted a couple of decent jobs. Since the start of the year I’ve been doing about 2 bathrooms a month, and the pipeline keeps building without spending big money on marketing. I know some people are dropping $3k+ a month on leads and websites, which is tough when you’re just starting out. All I’ve done is: Made a simple website myself Signed up to Bizzo/Jim’s-style leads Built relationships with suppliers It’s worked well for me so far. Might not suit everyone, but could be worth a crack if you’re just getting started. I Also try my hardest to give the best coustmer services!

windows in shower areas
Hey guys, just chasing some clarity on how everyone is handling existing windows in wet areas — specifically ones within ~1500mm of a shower outlet (so inside the splash zone). From my understanding, under the DTS provisions they don’t really comply as-is, but heaps of renovations keep them in place. How are people dealing with this in practice? Are certifiers accepting them as existing (kind of like a grandfathered situation)? Or are you needing to go down the Performance Solution route to justify keeping them? Also curious how everyone is approaching the glazing side — especially around safety glass requirements when you’re not fully replacing the window. Feels like there’s a bit of a grey area in the reno space with this stuff. Keen to hear how others are getting these signed off.

@Matt Spadavecchia It hard i have felt abit unsure on a few things like this during qouting with grandfarthering and new codes. And i from feed back it must be very confusing for clients as they here so many different things when gettong qoutes. This has really cleared a few things uo in my mind!
What will this cost me?
After listening to learnings. I under qouted on tiling labour based on what the prices my tiler had previously given me i was aware the prices had become higher but qouted on what he told me a year ago. I said the market rate is dearer i cant pay you that now but i am qouting work at that price now. Like steve said in one of the learnings they will make up there price somehow. Taking on to much work and rushing = lower qualitiy. What will this cost me in referals
