37 Art Tips for a Successful Landscape Painting Journey
Hey Artists I put together a blog post a while back that I still think is one of the most useful things on my site, 37 landscape painting tips drawn from my own experience over the years. It covers everything from colour mixing and tonal values to composition and brushwork. If you're just getting started, it'll give you a solid foundation. If you've been painting for a while, you'll probably still find a few things worth thinking about. You can read it here: https://samuelearp.com/blog/landscape-painting-tips/ Happy painting, Sam P.S. If you want to go deeper on this with live weekly painting classes, take a look at Sam's Landscape Painting School here: https://go.samuelearp.com/landscape-painting-school

Why Your Painting Might be Closer to Being Finished Than You Think
Hey Artists I just got off a call with one of my students who painted this beautiful snow scene, a snowy field near Dalefield outside Queenstown, with the Crown Range sitting in the background and some trees breaking up the horizon. It's a painting I taught inside the art school, and she wasn't happy with how hers had turned out. So I pulled her painting into Procreate on my iPad and just started drawing on it live, sculpting in shadows, pushing the tonal values, refining the light dynamic. WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW 👇 Here's the thing: there wasn't nearly as much wrong with it as she thought. A few targeted adjustments brought the whole painting to life. I've attached the recording so you can watch exactly what I did. This is something I come back to again and again with my students: values do all the heavy lifting. When the tonal structure is right, the light feels real, the shapes read clearly, and the painting holds together. It's not about repainting everything. It's about understanding where the lights and darks need to go to sculpt what you're seeing. If this kind of teaching resonates with you, this is exactly what we do inside Sam's Art School, every single week. Join me live every week and paint landscapes together. Watch me paint from start to finish, ask questions in real time, and get feedback on your work. No more guessing whether you're doing it right. No more painting alone in your studio, wondering if it's any good. It's like having a mentor looking over your shoulder, except you're learning alongside a community of other painters. HERES WHAT'S INSIDE: ✅ Weekly live painting classes ✅ Improve your painting in 7 days ✅ My 4-stage framework — thumbnails, sketch, values, colour ✅ 60+ tutorials in oils and acrylics ✅ A community of 400+ landscape painters ✅ All replays available HOW IT WORKS: 1. Create your free school profile 2. Enter your card details — you won't be charged for 7 days 3. Access everything instantly 4. Cancel before day 7 and pay nothing

Thank you Sam for sharing this video. I found it very helpful. When I first started paying with you I had now idea how importan shadows and values were. I am slowly catching on. It always seemed so scary I just wanted to avoid it.
🎨 From Struggling Beginner to Selling Art in 6 Months - Bethany's Amazing Transformation
Hey Artists I just had to share this incredible testimonial with you all. One of my students, Bethany, recorded a video sharing her painting journey and the transformation is absolutely mind-blowing. Where She Started: A year ago, Bethany was really struggling. Her landscapes looked flat, her colours were muddy, and she felt frustrated that her work didn't match what she envisioned. 6 Months Later: ✅ Creating professional-quality landscape paintings ✅ Had her work framed and proudly displayed on her wall ✅ SOLD 2 of her paintings ✅ Completely transformed her technique and confidence In her testimonial, Bethany shows her first painting compared to her recent work, the difference is honestly stunning. You have to see it to believe it. WATCH BETHANY'S TESTIMONIAL BELOW 👇 Here's What's Possible for You: Bethany learned the same techniques I teach every week inside Sam's Art School; composition, colour mixing, tonal values, and my step-by-step process for creating landscapes you'd be proud to hang on your wall or even sell. ⏰ Final Reminder - 2 Days Left: If Bethany's story inspires you and you've been thinking about taking your painting to the next level, you have just 2 days to lock in the current pricing: - Monthly: $29 USD/month forever (increases to $39 USD on October 5th) - Annual Special: $199 USD/year (normally $279 USD - offer ends October 5th) Once you join, you lock in that rate forever. Bethany went from struggling beginner to selling her work in 6 months. Imagine where you could be 6 months from now! Artists Who Want to Grow on Instagram - Read This
Hey Artists 🚀 Poll results are in (and a tool that can help you grow on Instagram as an artist) 41 of you voted on last week’s poll about Instagram growth 👇 - 20 want to learn how to grow - 11 want to sell more art through Instagram - 10 just want painting tips (all good!) That means 75% of you are serious about using Instagram to grow your art career. 🎉 Here’s the thing… Growing your audience online is one of the best ways to get your art seen and sold. And once you build that following, opportunities open up: commissions, print sales, even digital products. 👉 That’s been my own path: I grew my Instagram past 100k followers, sold original paintings, and built digital products that continue to support my career. But I also know the hardest part is staying consistent: - What do I post? - How do I get engagement? - How do I actually sell through Instagram? That’s why I’ve been using a tool called Allen AI. It helps you: ✅ Find viral content ideas that work for ANY niche (including art) ✅ Build consistency so you never run out of post ideas ✅ Even create your own store directly on Instagram so you can sell your digital products right from your page I’ve partnered with them so you can try it here👇 https://samuel_earp--impactclients.thrivecart.com/allen/ ⚡ Full transparency: This is an affiliate link, which means if you decide to try Allen AI through my link, I earn a commission (at no extra cost to you). I only recommend tools I personally use and believe can genuinely help you as an artist. ⚡ Remember: Tools don’t replace strategy, they support it. My bigger mission is helping you not only become a better painter, but also grow your audience and monetise your art. 🎨 My goal is to help you not only improve your painting skills, but also grow your audience on social media so you can share and sell your art with the world.

@Robbie Allen yes a good idea but I think maybe a few months down the line yet. I am still just trying to figure it all out right now. But I think that could be a fun idea soon.

@Robbie Allen I am just a beginner painter. Everything is brand new for me. I have done a little on my own, but would often end up frustrated. So that’s why I decided to join the Skool.
Don't Be This Artist...
Hey Artists We've all been there, right? Staring at a painting that just... isn't working. No matter what you try, it doesn't match the vision in your head. The colours are muddy. The composition feels off. Nothing has that "wow" factor you see in other artists' work. Here's the thing: It's not because you lack talent. It's because you're missing the fundamental knowledge that confident artists have, the understanding of composition, colour theory, values, and proven techniques that actually work. That's exactly what my Art School teaches. Not just random tips and tricks, but a systematic approach that eliminates the guesswork. QUICK UPDATE: My Clouds Painting Course officially started yesterday, and the response has been incredible! Many artists have joined after realising they were tired of struggling with the same painting problems repeatedly. Good news if you're interested: You can still jump in. The next live class is tomorrow, and you'll have full access to yesterday's replay to catch up. IMPORTANT The special annual pricing ($199 USD instead of $279 USD) ends in just 2 days - Monday night. After that, it goes back to the regular price. Don't stay frustrated. Join hundreds of artists who've transformed their skills and are now creating (and selling) paintings they're truly proud of. Join here: https://www.skool.com/samuel-earp-online-art-school/about Let me know if you have any questions! Sam P.S. Even if you can't make the live sessions, everything gets recorded, so you can learn at your own pace.
