Indomitable Will strikes
Today I played in a melee which mixed up triples and doubles to suit and in the 1st game I played against a gentleman who must have been 80. I was paired with a decent player and we were confident of the win. We played well, I hit lots of boule and so did he. I pointed well and all seemed good in the heat of Aude. But this old Man simply wouldn’t give up. He hit everything at 6/7/8 meters and shot raffle at longer. His partner wasn’t great but thrived off his will to win and constant encouragement. It went all the way to 12/12 and we just scrapes through when he missed his first shot. Turns out he was a former local champion and has been playing with the same determination for 70 years. No wonder he was a tough competitor. My taking from this were that no matter how old, whoever you are playing and no matter what the situation you always have a chance if you refuse to give up.

It is surprising how just the way someone looks or their ages can lead to underestimating them. Seen it many times in many sports.
Training
If you have the time to train for an hour every day would it be better to training shooting one day and pointing the next or do each in batches?

I often play milieu as can do bit of both, though my shooting is letting me down of late.
Do you really need to force a shot or have power
I saw this today and marvelled at how relaxed and effortless this child action was and also how she got the outcome. Watch this and let me know what you think https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1L4joxhQUJ/?mibextid=wwXIfr

That is the most relaxed shooting I’ve watched. Technique perfect, power from trajectory and where they hit boule, 3 out of 4 carreaus
A crazy idea or not?
Ive found myself rushing then regretting, so im thinking about adopting a game face technique where I introduce a 2-4 second slow down pre shot, this will also include a quieter approach pre during and post , crazy or not ? Ive tried it at my Friday practice yesterday the results were positive

I’ve started using a routine recently that’s really helping my game. Before stepping into the circle, I make the decision on the shot first. Then I take a deep breath, focus on either my landing spot or the boule if I’m shooting, let the breath out fully, and then pull the trigger. I’ve noticed it’s made a big difference because it feels like a complete reset before every shot. When I stick to it, my weight and accuracy are much more consistent. When I forget the routine, my shots tend to be more wayward and the weight is often off.
Tough Competition Weekend
This weekend took us to Stirling for the SPA Home Nations qualifiers, 32 teams battling it out for just 8 coveted spots. Two intense days, 12 matches, each game 55 minutes plus 2 ends. No easy moments. Heading in with a new team, only ever having played bounce doubles together, we set our sights high: qualification was the goal. It didn’t come easy. Across the 12 games, there were moments where it felt like we’d let it slip. In four matches alone, we dropped 3 or 4 points right on the whistle, the kind of margins that keep the pressure firmly on. But what stood out wasn’t the mistakes it was the response. No frustration, no blame. Just constant encouragement and belief in each other. That made the difference. By the end of the weekend, we finished 6th. Overjoyed doesn’t quite cover it, representing my nation again. How do you team play together
