In 1968, a researcher working with NASA developed a test to measure creativity and innovative thinking. Later, he gave the same test to a group of 5-year-olds. What he found was fascinating: 98% of these kids were creative geniuses! Human beings are born to create. We aren't born as empty vessels waiting to be filled with directions, methods, and techniques. We arrive with imagination, curiosity, and our own unique way of seeing and moving through the world. Because of this, our job as parents, teachers, and mentors isn't to define a child's path, but to nurture their curiosity and support their exploration of the world around them. We're not the steering wheel. We're the headlights. For both the adult and the child, the creative writing process is the perfect place to experience this. There's an easy, natural way to foster a love of writing in kids. I'm genuinely excited to share with you a writing program I've had the opportunity to bring to schools across the United States and abroad that taps in to a child's playful nature and brings the imagination to life. This community is being created with this simple hope: that we help kids build their creative playground, and they'll go off to play. Cheers! Derek
