Q: What does meditation and living soil have in common? A: OM πŸ˜‚πŸ’š organic matter and organic matters! πŸ’šπŸ˜‚ I’m adding OM by hand β€” and om’ing while doing it β€” to our Kurapia ground cover. We planted plugs late last summer and then over winter it was dormant and the soil settled. A healthy layer of OM/compost will feed the soil, the Kurapia that’s waking up, and help level up the soil in low spots. By the end of summer, I’m expecting to see a fully green and covered area with no bare spots. Three cheers for OM!!! Pics show the island of Kurapia that’s being filled in w dark, rich compost; the bag of LVWF compost; and a pic of a full-coverage Kurapia sample in a half barrel that we grew from a tiny little sprout over a few months’ time.

@Julie Vigil Looking good for sure. I think it will fill in nicely once the heat really kicks in. looks like quite a few mushrooms popping up too! Those don't look like the normal inky caps i usually see.

Ants!
I'm needing the garden gurus! I just found ants in a raised beds. While its not many yet, I want them gone. We have fireants here and While they can be somewhat controlled, its absolutely impossible to eradicate them completely. This is my ashwagandha and next to the tulsi!

I would say they are looking from food maybe something sweet or they are farming aphids. I wouldn't necessarily worry about it unless they over the area. This is part of a living soil everything has a function and purpose and it keeps things balanced.

@Carla Giddeons so here's something ants and worms occupy two different types of soil ecosystems. Ants usually prefer soil thats: Dry Well draining Low in organic material Worms prefer: Moist High organic material So if I think about all of the organisms that are inside of a soil, a few come to mind like fungi and nematodes. They will actually feed on ants and their larvae AKA their babies which will make ants physically move out. So I think if you were able to change the soil conditions then those ants would naturally leave.
Things aren't that complicated when it comes to saving plants
...So, based on observing how kittens have ruined some of my plants... ...Decided to place my indoor plants to other places, leaving four plants in a shady garage. Guess what? It didn't bother those kittens. They were okay with just few plants and didn't move. They just need shade to keep themselves away from heat.
