I worked for the same company for 4+ years. Thoughts of freelance started coming in and I set goals to achieve so that I can make a switch. 1. Have at least 6 months of my expenses saved up. (My goal was 1,80,000 +20,000 just to have a round figure) :P 2. Take up freelancing as a side hustle. 3. Building a network/studying people who are already in the space. This is to get resources and an understanding of what you are getting into. 4. NO NICHE YET. There I said it. Don't restrict yourself to a particular kind of service. I would say try everything under the sun in the initial phases. If you're making mistakes, be it. That's how we learn and that's how we know if we like it or not. 5. Finally, listen to your heart. When your side hustle is giving you more joy and you are naturally drawn to working more and more towards it... You Switch! I made the switch last October! It's not easy at all but the last point keeps me going! If anyone else also switched recently, I would love to read about your journey.
