Unless we allow comfort to become our culture.
Too many people no longer let hardship forge character. Instead, they let it justify excuses, dependency, blame and the expectation that someone else should fix what only they can change. The challenge isn’t avoiding hard times. It’s deciding who you become because of them. I was reminded this morning of the quote: Hard times create strong people. Strong people create good times. Good times create weak people. Weak people create hard times. Unfortunately, I think we’ve reached a point where the cycle is being broken. Too often, hard times are no longer creating stronger people. They’re creating a culture of entitlement instead of responsibility. Dependency instead of resilience Victimhood instead of ownership. Excuses instead of action. Not everyone chooses that path. Many people still use adversity as fuel to build remarkable lives. But as a society, we’ve become far too comfortable telling people that the answer lies somewhere else: with the government, with employers, with family, with circumstances, with anyone except the person staring back at them in the mirror. No one is coming to save you. The day you stop waiting for rescue and start taking responsibility is the day your life begins to change Hard times will always come. The only question is whether they’ll break you… or build you.
Unless we allow comfort to become our culture.

Morning @Mike Greene I like this post, I’ve said so many times in the past that some of the old values are still very relevant today, when I have said that, I’ve had a few people say that my views were old fashioned and I should move on….. Of course I took that advice with a grain of salt 😁 We’re all for embracing what’s new and what will make us better etc …. But just like you said, the world still needs strong people because guess what, hard times will come again… just get on with it and learn from them. Have a great day Mike and we’ll catch up soon. 👍

You are one among 117 BILLION people. Yet you are one of one. Read that again. 👆 Scientists estimate 117 billion humans have ever lived. Not one had your DNA. Not one had your fingerprint. Not one had your voice. Not one lived your experiences. Not one saw the world through your eyes. 🎨 A Rembrandt is worth millions. But he painted hundreds. 🎼 Mozart's music is treasured worldwide. But he wrote over 600 works. 🎻 A Stradivarius is priceless. But more than 1,000 were made. You? There has only ever been one. And there will only ever be one. Yet most people spend their lives trying to be somebody else. They copy. They conform. They seek approval. They bury the very thing that makes them unique. Imagine owning an original masterpiece... ...then painting over it to look like everyone else's. Madness. Yet that is exactly what millions do with their lives. The greatest tragedy is not failure. It is spending your life as a second-rate version of someone else... ...instead of a first-rate version of yourself. You are one among billions. Yet you are one of one. Start acting like it. 🔥

A great post and reminder to us all @Mike Greene …. I especially like the piece.. “ Imagine owning a masterpiece then painting over it to make it look like everyone else’s madness “ Have a great day and stay hydrated in the beautiful sunshine.. ☀️ 😎
IF EVERYONE ON YOUR TEAM IS A STAR, YOU ARE LYING TO YOURSELF
Yesterday I posted about anchors and propellers. The question of who in your business is driving you forward and who is quietly holding you back. Today I want to go one level deeper. Because identifying the anchors is only half the job. The other half is the question almost no founder asks out loud. WOULD YOU FIGHT TO KEEP THIS PERSON? Walk through your team one name at a time. For each person, ask yourself this. If they resigned tomorrow, would I fight to keep them? If the honest answer is no, or even not sure, that is your answer. Stop carrying people your gut already knows are wrong for the next stage of the journey. THE 20-70-10 REALITY In any honest team, the distribution looks roughly like this. 🟢 20 percent are high performers 🟡 70 percent are solid performers 🔴 10 percent need attention If almost everyone in your business scores highly, the team has not been assessed honestly. And here is what it costs you. When your top performers see mediocre colleagues treated the same way they are, they do one of two things. They match down. Or they leave. Both outcomes are expensive. Both are avoidable. THE HARDER TRUTH Some of the people who got you here were never meant to go the whole journey. Think of a rocket. Each booster stage gets it to a certain altitude and then drops away. If it does not drop away, the next stage cannot fire. That is not failure. That is growth. The kindest thing you can do for someone who is not right for the next stage is to be honest with them. Not next quarter. Now. Tough conversations are an act of respect, not aggression. If someone is performing below standard and nobody tells them, they carry on believing they are doing fine. They miss the chance to improve. And they may eventually be let go without ever understanding why. Avoiding the conversation is not kindness. It is avoidance dressed up as kindness. WHAT TO DO THIS WEEK 1️⃣ Take yesterday's anchor and propeller list 2️⃣ For every name, ask the resignation question 3️⃣ Be honest about where they sit on the 20-70-10

@Mike Greene I’ve read the last two days posts over and over again….. there is so much to digest in them…..so hats off for bringing this into the discussion forum. What I’ve noticed and learn’t over the years is also a fear, it’s a fear of, what if I made the wrong decision? what if there is unexpected consequences ? what if ? what if ? What if …. ? However that “what if “ that just delays the inevitable for longer, can lead to the total wrong outcome and sometimes catastrophic consequences… One thing for definite is this “ Nothing kills a good employee more than to see you tolerate a bad one “ As always Mike, great post 👍
“What you do speaks so loudly, I can’t hear what you say.”
People tell their kids: • don’t smoke • don’t drink too much • be disciplined • be organised • be respectful • be on time • keep your promises Then the same adults: • smoke in front of them • drink every weekend • Spend all evening and weekends as a lazy couch potato • run late constantly • break promises • avoid responsibility • live in chaos • blame everybody else They complain about: • the government lying • customers paying late • staff not caring • partners not listening • society losing values But when you look deeper into their own behaviours, businesses and lives… ...they are often doing the exact same things they criticise in others. Children do not become what you tell them: They become what they see. Teams do not follow your mission statement: They follow your standards. Clients do not trust your words: They trust your consistency. And life itself often becomes a mirror: You attract what you give out. The energy, standards, discipline, honesty and respect you carry into the world tends to come back in one form or another. That’s why one of the most powerful ideas ever shared was: “Be the change you wish to see in the world.” Not demand it. Not preach it. Not post about it. ....Be it. Because what you do speaks far louder than anything you say.
“What you do speaks so loudly, I can’t hear what you say.”

@Mike Greene I have a simple thing that I always say to myself and to all the managers and teams I’ve ever worked with… “ Leaders set the standard, others just follow it” When you think about that, it is exactly what you’ve said in your post… Have a great day Mike and thanks for reminding us of an important message that is relevant to our personal life, our business life and indeed of our wider community life…
What are you waiting for?
Procrastination and Prevarication are like cancer to success ...and while you are dithering others are refining and evolving You don’t win because you’re the best You win because you start earlier than most On this day in 1970 China launched its first satellite It wasn’t the best It wasn’t leading the world But it did one thing most people miss It started the clock Fast forward: → China now runs one of the most advanced space programmes in the world → Independent navigation system competing with GPS → Permanent space station → Moon and Mars missions → Massive satellite infrastructure They didn’t wait to be ready They got moving Most business owners do the opposite - They sit - They tweak - They “prepare” While someone else starts And keeps going And compounds Momentum isn’t just speed It’s time in the game Every day you delay Someone else is stacking experience Stacking data Stacking advantage So here’s the real question Are you trying to be right Or are you trying to win Because the people who win Started before they felt ready
What are you waiting for?

@Mike Greene someone once told this “ You’ll never feel ready because ready isn’t a feeling it’s a decision “ Have a great weekend 😎
