12 - 1 = 15... After mysteriously and suddenly losing my favorite girl, Morticia, my husband felt bad for me. For my birthday at the end of March, he surprised me and took me to get new chicks! He even gave me permission to have a house chicken (now or in the future)! My new girls are now a month old, zooming, flapping, jumping , and enjoying their new feathers. What a wonderful age! Is anyone else currently raising spring chicks? Share your pictures with us!

I’m FINALLY a chicken mama! After a long wait my babies came today…the only sad thing is, they didn’t all make it through the journey here. But, I have 8 healthy chicks right now and they are adorable! I can’t wait to watch them grow and get to know their personalities 😊

Hope everyone is enjoying the beginnings of spring! The first two days of spring in Missouri have felt more like summer with temperatures in the mid 70s and 80s. Today is supposed to reach 90! First, I'd like to apologize to those who'd shown interest in learning how to grow a chicken herb garden 🐔🌿🪏. The busyness of life got me behind on my own seed starting, which meant I wasn't able to get any photos, videos, or written guides done for you. Then, unfortunately, death made the situation worse. Two weeks ago today, I lost my first chicken, my favorite girl Morticia Eggams. It was sudden and we don't know what happened. She was fine that morning and when I came home later that morning she was looking badly. She passed in my arms an hour later. Four days later, my daughter's almost 18 year old beagle, my favorite grand fur baby, Sissy, had to be euthanized. This sweet girl has been by my daughter's side for more than half her life and it was very sad for all of us. My best chicken friend lost two of her girls in the same time frame. We've spent many hours on the phone and in person consoling and commiserating over the past two weeks. And finally, my pitbull, Imani, was diagnosed with mast cell cancer the day after my daughter's dog passed away. We had surgery done last Monday and we're awaiting results from the tissue sent for grading. We lost her "brother", our pitbull, Jake, to mast cell cancer several years ago. At least this time I knew what to look for and we hopefully caught it early and got the mass removed completely. On the first day of spring, we had 8000 lbs of soil delivered 🚜for the new raised garden beds we built. Between construction of the beds and hauling wheelbarrows of soil from the driveway to the back of our property, we've been very busy (and sore!) for the past couple of weekends. I've managed to catalog all of my seeds so I can begin indoor seed starting and designing my new garden bed plans. I can recommend several really good sources for chicken garden starting in the meantime if anyone wants to get going while I get my 💩 together 😆. Thank you for your understanding.
