The Fragrance Wears You...? (re-up'd)
Hey guys, Joe A. here with another one for ya'! Quick thought experiment for ya'! Most of us wear fragrance for all the usual reasons… to smell good, feel confident, pull compliments, make memories, or let’s be honest, to justify buying the next bottle sitting in our cart. Fragrance is one of the most personal accessories a man can own. Watch, shoes, jacket… sure. But scent? That’s invisible style. But every now and then, you hear someone say: “That fragrance wore you.” Now hold up… what does that even mean? To me, that’s when the scent walks into the room before you do… and kinda refuses to leave when you arrive. It dominates your personality instead of supporting it. Maybe it’s too loud, too mature, too sweet, too dark, or just completely outta sync with who you are or where you’re headed. Instead of enhancing you, it becomes the main character and you’re just the delivery system. I think most of us have been there. Oversprayed a beast mode oud at brunch. Rocked a heavy winter amber in Florida heat. Tried to channel mysterious CEO energy… while running errands in gym shorts. Suddenly the fragrance isn’t an extension of you, it’s fighting you. The sweet spot? When the fragrance feels like an amplifier, not a costume, right? What say you, guys? Have you ever worn something where you felt like the fragrance wore you instead? What scent humbled you real quick? And what advice would you give newer fragheads trying to avoid that mistake? Love to hear from ya’

"Rocked a heavy winter amber in Florida heat" I'm not apologizing and I'll do it again.
Erba Pura by Xerjoff
Starting my discovery set from Xerjoff today and going with this one as it will be a warm day in Florida. Erba Pura by Xerjoff is an Oriental fragrance for women and men. Erba Pura was launched in 2019. Erba Pura was created by Christian Carbonnel and Laura Santander. Top notes are Sicilian Orange, Calabrian bergamot and Sicilian Lemon; middle note is Fruits; base notes are White Musk, Madagascar Vanilla and Amber.

It's been poorly cloned far too many times for its own good. Smelling a $15 version of it out on the street can turn my stomach now. I would choose Gold if I had to have a bottle.
Pronunciation... (re-up'd)
Hey guys, Joe A. here with another one for ya'! Fellas, I’ll be honest, after all this time in the fragrance hobby, reviewing, collecting, decanting, talking scents almost daily… I STILL butcher fragrance names. And I know I’m not alone here. Take Joop! for example. Is it like “loop” with a “y” in front? Is it “yope” with that smooth European confidence? Or is it just me out here sounding like a backwoods sommelier saying “Joe-pp!” like I’m calling a dog in for dinner? This hobby will humble you REAL quick. One minute you’re feeling sophisticated discussing niche perfumery… next minute you realize you’ve been mispronouncing a house name for years while confidently recommending it to people. Nothing hits quite like hearing a perfumer interview or walking into a boutique and suddenly realizing, "oh no… I’ve been saying that completely wrong." And honestly? It’s part of the fun. Fragrance is global. French, Italian, Arabic, Spanish, German, these scents come from everywhere, and sometimes our Midwest, Southern, New York, or “Joe Average” accents just do their best to survive the journey. At the end of the day, loving the scent matters more than sounding like you trained in Paris. Ha, I still run into names today where I pause before saying them out loud hoping nobody asks me to repeat it! What say you, guys? What fragrance name have YOU completely butchered before? Which one shocked you the most when you finally heard the correct pronunciation? And let's be honest… what name are you still secretly unsure about right now? Love to hear from ya’!

I do it on purpose. Brands have gotten too far up their own posteriors with the 10-word flanker names. "Johnny Varva-toss" is still the only one that's thrown someone.

That's a rare price on Spirito Fiorentino.
First Niche Buy???
I feel like I built up a solid designer base. I have plenty of options at hand and thinking of buying my first “niche fragrance”. I’m wanting to focus on adding these in based on seasonality, so I am looking at something solid for spring. I don’t have a place locally to try these out that I am aware of so JomaShop seems to be the route to take. I’m eyeing Creed GIT or Etat Libre dOrange You Or Someone Like You. I’m open to PDM Greenly or any advice. Anything spring summer or a solid all year round? I plan on ordering a discovery set or two as well if anyone has recommendations on the best sets there as well.

All good choices. You're leaning into greens and citrus. Don't be afraid to jump into the more indie releases too. Statik Olfactive: Into the Wild could be something to look at. Guerlain also has nice releases with the Homme line. They run similar to Olfactive Studio. I wear the ELDO myself and it has a strong mojito vibe that settles into a sappy cut vine aroma. I alternate between that with (AdP) Fico di Amalfi, (HdP) 1828, and (Algabra) Scent of Paradise. I love a good pine and juniper as well. Imaginary Authors and M. Micallef could be worth sampling. GinTonic has the same zesty alcohol vibe as YOSLY.

@John Hanslip Vetiver is an old school type of grassy sharp green mixed with citrus. In not a fan. L'Homme l'eau Boisee is a freshwr take on Vetiver. Olfactive Studio later made the Still Life line that resembles it. I wanted to give you some good niche starting points so you can explore. Try Amouage Reflection Man when you get the chance.
