Mostly New Breath Hold Lounge
Hello everyone. This is the mostly new Breath Hold lounge. Some of you are probably wondering why a new one. The other one had a lot of posts, but not a lot of people used it anymore. So I am hoping to make this one more fun. This is also the place for questions if you have one. A few rules though. Make sure to post your breath hold times in the breath hold thread. If they aren't posted in the correct place then you don't have a chance on winning a weekly giveaway prize. They will also be removed from this thread and put in the other. The second rule is to be kind to the people posting in here. The third is to have fun. ๐Ÿ™‚

How is deep breathing good for your heart? Any medical knowledge out there? My wife is concerned. Iโ€™m 74 years young in very good health.

Curious on how you take breath holding to the max? We shared a sample of the Full Exhale Diving video from the Breath Hold Mastery below. In light of some of the questions from last week about forceful exhale vs. passive exhale from @Ric Peterson and @Sven Kรถpke For 99% of the applications, a passive exhale will do just fine. Just gently let go of your breath for a few seconds. Any longer won't really matter as you'll reach an equilibrium and more air won't leave the lungs. After the exhale, the following amount will still be left in your lungs: Passive exhale (~50%) vs. forceful exhale (~25%) Don't want to jump in the water and have a buddy step on you? You can do a forceful exhale on land. 1. Take a full breath in 2. Engage your core: tighten your abdominal muscles; like bracing for a punch 3. Actively contract your diaphragm and abs to push out air; like blowing out candles on a cake 4. Keep pushing until you feel nearly all of your air has left your lungs Want to push it even further? Exhale through pursed lips, and perform a forward bend to push out all the air. NOTE: As always, never hold your breath under water alone; and don't push yourself too hard. When you feel dizzy, stop immediately.

Yesterday I focused on deeply relaxing. My MO is to lay down on my back, pillow under my knees and head, and fill my lungs ๐Ÿซ to bursting, again and again maybe ten times or so. Then to fill up and hold. I count slowly in my head, 1-2-3-1, 1-2-3-2, etc slowly so each one is about 5 seconds long. I lightly click my teeth so there is something physical going on, but effortless. When I check in, two+ minutes have gone by, which is great. Then I focus on staying still as the oxygen debt starts to build, and hold till I canโ€™t. Anyway, yesterday, I started out with a 2 1:2. Then a 3:40, which pleasantly surprised me ๐Ÿ˜Ž. And then, I finished off with a 4:04! That made me very happy, because I didnโ€™t have to kill myself to get there! If Iโ€™m able to pull a 4, that means 5-land is around the corner! So, here we go.

Post all your Breath Hold Times here! Let's go & double your breath hold! ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿซ In light of Stig helping legendary freediving Alexey Molchanov grab a new WR, how long can a world champion hold their breath? The answer: 8 minutes and 33 seconds. Yes, I think it will take us some time to get there. ๐Ÿ˜Ž ๐Ÿ‘‹ ๐—ก๐—ฒ๐˜„ ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ? Here is how it works: Step 1: Take an inhale, start your stopwatch & hold your breath. Step 2: Post your time here, get feedback and points Step 3: Head on over to the Classroom & follow the instructions Let's go & double your breath hold! ๐Ÿง‘โ€๐Ÿซ

Hello folks! Iโ€™m back! I have been off and on for a bit, but I want to be a โ€œregular โ€œ again, so here I am. Itโ€™s been awhile, but I am happy that I can still pull a three. Iโ€™d like to do a consistent 4. Weโ€™ll see.

How much do you exhale when you time that? I just breathed out until I stopped naturally and started there. I did a bit more than a minute.

Busy time. G-kids, coast ๐ŸŒŠ , mountains ๐Ÿ”๏ธ , an unusual slew of doctor appointments: cardiologist, dermatologist, internist, dentist, X-rays, โ€ฆIโ€™m ok, just a creaky knee that might need to be tightened up. Routine out the window but I managed to get in some exercises. But today I wanted to see if I still had it. Did a bunch of one minutes with 15 second intervals, then some two minutes, and then managed out some threes. Happy about that! ๐Ÿ‘Š๐Ÿป
