Kids walk in Yatsugatake, Japan
The other day, when I told about going to do a walk with kids and some of their parents during one of the online gatherings, @Dr Nicolene du Preez asked me to share some photos. The walk was last Friday in what I jokingly call my backyard. I am surrounded by a beautiful natural area. The name of the mountains is Yatsugatake, Eight Peaks. The mountains are what is left of a volcano that blew its top about 3 million years ago. The group consisted mainly of high school girls, and three parents. I integrated some ecotherapy activities and told them about nature and the processes of nature to make them aware of the different aspects of the mountains and nature in the area. For them, the river with waterfall was the pinnacle of the walk... Oh, and the soft serve ice cream at the end of the walk. 😋

@Jan-Peter van Wermeskerken thank you very much for sharing. Lucky students 🙏 Yesterday I joined a bird watching group in Central Park, NYC. 3 hrs lead by a PhD ornithology expert … this isn’t the important bit. This is: half way through there was a group of around 12 kids that crossed paths / joined our group for 10 or so minutes, joining around 30 older adults at a particular point. The kids had a leader, a number of volunteer parents, a bird book, multiple sets of binoculars. The kids were darting backward and forward as numerous birds flew from tree to tree, being identified, their behaviour explained, their calls listened to. They were caught up in the excitement. Bird spotting. I could not help but smile. The picture attached was a part of that group. The day before I’d been accused of being ‘old’ for wanting to join a bird watching group!!!! Perhaps the old should be accused of being young and the young accused of seeking wisdom?! Could every school have a Biomimicry Works Advisory Board? A teacher that champions Biomimicry and a student body that discusses how to ‘keep us close’ to nature. Imagine a team of globally accredited speakers available to give talks to schools. Where design and engagement of those presentations are at the forefront of motive and delivery. Thinking out loud. Dreaming. Oh the opportunity we have …. @Peter Philips @Dr Nicolene du Preez

Walking around
Almost everyday I am able to walk around in my 'backyard'. I walk with my students, or clients, but most often just alone through the forests surrounding my house. Times of introspection and connetiveness.

View from our window in NYC. The orchid: such an incredible plant / flower, inside… whilst spring springs outside! Back to the orchid: how on earth do they survive on so little nutrients, and yet their complexity and the energy required to produce the flower must be a lot? They must have a mind boggling efficient system of energy transfer? This community inspired the thought 💭
