First Post Introduction
Hello, I have never managed to get to grips with Gypsy Jazz, not having the required dexterity to accomplish the impressive runs. That has not stopped me loving the music. I first stumbled upon the Django album "Djangology" decades ago. This was the album in which he was backed by a rhythm section of musicians from Rome. Frank Vignola was a bit sniffy about them, but this recording had me hooked. The version of "Minor Swing" on this album is the best I have heard. I look forward to seeing postings on this site and will definitely attempt the basic exercises provided. I don't have a Selmer-Maccaferri guitar and I play fingerstyle. Other than that I am only handicapped by my lack of talent.

Hello Jimmy. Thanks for your welcome. In response to your enquiry I offer the following information. The Penguin Guide to Jazz Fifth Edition, page 1245. "A final opportunity to hear Reinhardt and Grappelli playing together, albeit with a dud rhythm section. In an intelligent sleeve note (which contains useful track-by-track comments on all 20 CD items), guitarist Frank Vignola warns against making comparisons between these rather edgy and competitive sessions and the great days of the pre-war Quintette du Hot Club" There are further references to the local musicians being a positive hindrance and to one track in which (Gianni) Safred plays morosely in the background while Recori and de Carolis go off for a grappa. It is not clear whether these latter comments are from Vignola's sleeve notes or the guides editors.
