The Unexpected Surprises In Macro Photography
One of my favorite things about macro photography is that you get to uncover interesting details and surprises you otherwise wouldn't see. Things like the "eyebrows" on a jumping spider, or the "mustache" on a milkweed beetle, or a damselfly enjoying a snack. While I was out with the rented Om1 m2 on Thursday, I captured quite the surprise! When I started reviewing images on my computer, I saw what looked like an attempt at predation by a big wasp on a little wasp. All creatures escaped seemingly unscathed. Now I need to figure out what two species the wasps are... Om1 m2 Zuiko 90mm macro 1/500s, f8, ISO200 Handheld Single Shot Natural Light Photo 1: A wasp and a bee hanging out on some flowers Photo 2: Incoming! Photo 3: The attempted abduction Photo 4: Hold on to that flower for dear life! (little wasp) Photo 5: Lost my grip! (big wasp) Photo 6: I'm outta here! (honeybee) Photo 7: Getting back to it

Good luck on your part for capturing the moment. It’s fun to come back home and to find some unexpected subject that pops up in the image
📸 September Showcase Time! ✨
A little later than planned this month, as I’ve been busy with workshops and reviews, but let’s celebrate what you’ve been creating! Share your favourite image you created in September and tell us a little about it. What inspired you? How did you make it? Or why is it special to you? ✅ No theme ✅ No pressure ✅ No judgement It doesn’t need to be perfect or even finished! It could be a completed piece, a fun experiment, a work in progress, or simply something you enjoyed creating. Every image is part of your creative journey, and if it means something to you, it absolutely belongs here. Don’t be shy about sharing. Your work might inspire someone else to try something new, and this is a wonderfully supportive space to celebrate what we’ve all been making. ✨ A quick reminder: this is a sharing thread, not a critique. Let’s keep it positive, friendly, encouraging and inspiring. 💬 Remember to show some love to other creators too. A like or a kind comment can make someone’s day. 🙌 Can’t wait to see what everyone created in September! 💛

@Igor B nice jumper. Sadly they’ve mostly eluded me this last summer
A Brief Encounter
There's a certain old stump in my neighborhood park that get covered in tiny orange mushrooms each year. They only last a few days and then they're gone. I don't think anyone has ever noticed them but me. Frankly there's too many of them to make out a coherent shot, but I was able to isolate a small group to get this shot. This was taken with my OM-1 MKII and the Zuiko 90mm macro, 13 shots at 1/10", f/4.5 and ISO 200. Lighting provided by Smallrig RM03 with a yellowed leaf in the background. Definitely one of my more ambitious shots, but worth the effort. In hind sight, I wished I had shot deeper to avoid the blurred foreground on the lower left. Comments and criticisms welcome.

@Igor B thank you!
Embrace the Dirt
This might be a little controversial, but I found this tiny mushroom in my park and laid the OM1 on the ground and took a few stacks. Normal practice is to try to clean up your subject, I didn't have anything with me, so they're covered in debris. I retrospect I think the shot is more interesting with the details of the leaf litter and tiny sand crystals. 13 shot stack with OM1 MK2 with Zuiko 90mm Pro and Smallrig RM-03 light.

They’re a lot of fun to shoot, and pretty patient, too!
