Tonight, I’m out here with my 18-year-old son, in the dark, on a steep, wet, slippery hill. We were supposed to do six laps. We hit 11. And, when our bodies said stop, we kept moving. One extra for people living with disabilities who would give anything to climb with us. One for those no longer here. One for the ones without a father or a brother beside them. And one for God and the universe that gives us breath and strength to show up. I’m in my mid-50s and running beside my son, I am, humbled beyond words. I thank God every day that I can still push with him. I’m teaching him when life gets hard, you don’t quit. You push. No diagnosis or obstacle defines my spirit. I am a soldier of God. I am a prince. I am a king. This body is my temple and I will honor the Almighty with every step. Tonight, father and son pushed together, and for that, I am truly blessed.
