You can’t earn your way out…
I quit my corporate job in November of 2025. That was after 5 years of planning. Well, more like 4 years of talking myself into it and then 1 year of execution. Before I quit, I was earning more than I ever thought I would. And I'd open my laptop on Sunday night with a knot in my chest that no bonus check ever loosened. I knew I wanted to do more, but it was difficult to come to terms with leaving the security of the job, and the pay and benefits kept me trapped. I had a dream of working as a Ski Patroller in the winter and starting my own business as well. Neither of those felt within reach when I began thinking about leaving my career. I discovered I was never going to EARN my way out of that job. What changed was three questions... 1. What actually motivates me? 2. What does “Enough” look like? 3. What was I willing to sacrifice? None of these questions were about the money I needed to save or the income I needed to replace. They were about what I wanted the future to look like, what mindset I needed to support it, and what I needed to discard to embrace it. The first day working as a Ski Patroller, I caught myself shaking my head in disbelief and realized this was finally real. And I had made it happen. It was totally freeing to take those first steps towards my dream. Answering these 3 questions gave me the space to begin rewriting the old habits I had created to succeed where I was and begin to lay the foundation for a new life, setting goals to create a way forward into something that was mine. The answers didn’t replace all of the challenges. But they turned my anxiety into excitement, focused my energy on creating instead of surviving. So, the road hasn’t been easy, but it is more fulfilling than I ever thought it could be. I don’t doubt myself less, but I have a compass that keeps me pointed in the right direction. Anything that is worth doing takes a ton of energy in the beginning, and much of the work is in understanding where you are at that moment. That’s why it’s so easy to stay where you are.

What was I willing to sacrifice? It’s tough because I think the answer might be getting less sleep, not wasting time on movies and all distractions keeping me from my goals

Want More Freedom? Start With a Plan.
Many people say they want to leave their job and work for themselves. Far fewer can clearly explain what would need to happen financially for that decision to make sense. The challenge isn't usually a lack of ambition. It's a lack of clarity. A successful transition from employment to entrepreneurship is rarely the result of a leap of faith. More often, it's the result of deliberate preparation: understanding your expenses, defining a target income, building predictable revenue streams, and creating enough margin to absorb uncertainty. The question isn't: "When can I quit?" The better question is: "What would need to be true for me to quit confidently?" That shift changes everything. Instead of operating on hope, you begin operating on numbers. Instead of guessing, you start planning. Instead of waiting for courage, you build certainty. Most people spend years dreaming about freedom while avoiding the financial calculations that would make freedom possible. The entrepreneurs who eventually make the jump tend to do the opposite. They measure, model, prepare, and then act. Because the goal isn't simply to escape corporate. The goal is to build a business strong enough that leaving becomes the logical next step.
