September 30, 2026... Day Six - Prayer, Fasting & the Bible
READING: Malachi 1-4… OVERVIEW: Leviticus… PRAYING FOR: Dodge, Cuming, and Wayne counties in Nebraska… You can join me in praying for the state of Nebraska or pray for your own community, state, and/or country. The important thing is to pray as God leads. 1 Timothy 2:1-2 (NASB) First of all, then, I urge that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made in behalf of all people, for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. James 5:16 (NASB) Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another so that you may be healed. A prayer of a righteous person, when it is brought about, can accomplish much. THE LORD’S PRAYER (you may have learned a slightly different version of the prayer Jesus taught): 1) Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name; 2) Thy kingdom come; 3) Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; 4) Give us this day our daily bread; 5) And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; 6) And lead us not into temptation; 7) But deliver us from evil; 8) For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. For each community pray for: 1) Families 2) Neighborhoods 3) Churches 4) Schools, their staff and students 5) Community and Civic Groups 6) Businesses and their employees 7) Doctors, nurses, and other medical professionals 8) First Responders (firefighters, law enforcement) 9) Local Government Officials and other employees 10) Those who may be sick, injured, or suffering. FASTING I am asking the Lord to show each of us, individually, exactly when and how to fast during these 40 days. Fasting can look different depending on the person and situation. Duration, frequency, and what is given up vary with health, medical needs, purpose (repentance, guidance, grief, spiritual focus), and even may be influenced by your church’s traditions. The consistent Biblical emphasis is on the heart and the goal of seeking God and His will.

Arch Kennedy, a Christian speaker and commentator, posted the following on X (Twitter) on September 26, 2026: For a long time, I could do something I knew was wrong, feel a little bad about it, and move on. Whether it was sexual sin, an outburst of anger, or holding on to resentment, I rarely stopped to face what was happening in my heart. That began to change when I got into God’s Word and kept coming back to it. Scripture showed me how God calls me to live, and it showed me where I was going wrong. Things I once brushed aside began to convict me. I’ve seen change in how I respond to fear and to culture, too. I used to be immersed in politics, worried every day about what would happen if the other side took power. That fear drove much of what I posted. I still care about how I vote, and my theology still shapes my politics. But I no longer want political voices and headlines to have that kind of hold on my peace. The same is true of what I watch. Movies and social media shape so much of what we come to accept as normal. I’ve found that I can’t sit through some of the vulgar, violent, or highly sexual content I once watched without thinking twice. Sometimes I turn away. I believe that discomfort is the Holy Spirit working in me. I didn’t begin to see these things differently until I spent time in God’s Word. I’m still wrestling with sin. I’m nowhere near where I want to be. But I can see that Jesus is changing me. Nothing else has reached my heart the way He has through His Word. If you’re discouraged because you keep struggling, please don’t give up. Open your Bible. Keep returning to it regularly; don’t let week after week pass without hearing what God says. Read it even when you know it may confront something in your life. Jesus meets us with truth, and He is able to change us as we follow Him.

Over the last few days, the Lord has been speaking to me about having too many distractions. The Apostle Paul writes: 2 Timothy 2:3-4 (NASB) Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him. Ask God what you are unnecessarily distracted with.
