Like you, I joined Synthesizer School after watching one of Andrew’s YouTube videos. In April, he pitched me on the idea of a place for content creators to start, refine, and accelerate their journeys into the creator economy through synthesizing information. No need to create any ‘original’ content - perfect for a lazy person like me. Once inside, I gobbled up all the information I could get my hands on, I smashed through the free course and binge watched a tonne of Andrews videos. (This one is still my favourite, and I believe his most poignant.) Engaging with posts, greeting new joiners, joining content creation challenges - I was logging on every day to get the most out of this group. By doing this, by becoming an active member of the community, surely I was on my way to unlocking the most value this community has to offer? Surely I was bound to cut through all the noise and get to the best bits? I thought I was headed down the right path. … Recently, I had a bunch of calls with some of the guys I’ve met on here. (Shout outs to @Connor Widmaier @Siebren de Vos @Shivam Jha) We got on a zoom call and talked about all things related to content creation, business, ambitions, hobbies, anything at all. I joined Synthesizer School in April, and it took me until August to get on calls with people. And boy am I glad I did. These guys are AWESOME. But amongst the ideas, conversations, and reflections on our individual synthesizer, it got me thinking: Chatting with those guys was far better than logging into Synthesiser School everyday to see new posts. Building deeper relationships and connecting with people through similar interests was what made me stop, think, and (most importantly) act. Then I realised… That was it. That was the best feature of Synthesiser School. The best part of Synthesizer School is you.

(4/6 of our accountability calls) Three weeks ago some members of the community started a weekly Zoom call to connect with each other, hold each other accountable, and solve each other's problems. The main goal is to create one piece of content per week, for 6 weeks. To build the habit of creating, and grow your audience. You can see a recording of the first call here. And a recording of the third call here. This weeks call will follow a mastermind format inspired by Think and Grow Rich. Here's how the call will work: A member of the call will be randomly chosen by @Wiktor Romanowicz. The chosen member will describe: 1. Their current situation around synthesizing 2. Their desired situation around synthesizing 3. Any problems that are holding them back from reaching their desired situation. This should take less than 3 minutes, so if you tend to ramble, it could be a good idea to come to the call prepared with a rough idea of what you're going to say. Then the rest of the members of the call will try their best to help the chosen member solve their problem! People can unmute themselves, offer advice, recall times they were in similar situations and what they did, provide content recommendations etc. Ideally responses are short and concise, mindful of everyone's time. Then after roughly 10 minutes, another hotseat member is randomly chosen. I've personally paid a looooooot of money to attend similar mastermind calls, and have received a tonne of value from it (what's more valuable than a group of intelligent people all working on solving your most pressing problems?). The call will go on for around 60 minutes. And even if you're not chosen, chances are people are going through similar problems to you, so it'll still be valuable. Plus teaching is the best way to learn.

REVISED TO INCLUDE A NEW OPTION FOR VOTING: For the past six weeks, several of us have been meeting on a video call regarding what we're working on and what help we'd like, with fellow synthesizers weighing in with their expertise, suggestions, and opinions. This call was originally set up as part of a six-week challenge accountability call, but it has turned into a fantastic way to learn from each other and encourage each other regardless of the pacing of our content creation. However, the timing of the calls have been inconvenient for most of our fellow synthesizers in the Americas, so how do we expand the conversation to include them? And, if we do change the time, how do we continue to include our friends in Australia and other parts of the world where the current timing works fine but an Americas-friendly timing might not? The first six weeks of the original challenge have concluded, but the calls have been so productive, we'd like to continue with regular meet-ups of some sort. So... Poll: If we were to have an Americas-friendly call that is also workable for as many Synthesizers who would like to join us, what time would work best for you? One of the easiest ways to get consistent at something is to do it with friends that will hold you accountable. I remember when I was starting going to the gym, I was overwhelmed. There are just too many things to do. Benches, machines, pretty girls... But my friend has told me that if you show up and do the work one day, you will laugh at the things that you are doing right now. He would show up at my house every 2 days and forced me to go with him, after 6 months I was hooked. He didn't need to push me to lift anymore. Yesterday I have done 115 kg at the bench press... ( it is not that much but took years) but what does it have to do with you and how you are going to improve at creating content? If you start right, you will be set for life, but if you get discouraged, you might grow resentful and never go back to the amazing things that publishing content might bring you. Andrew recently tweeted about putting a calendly link in bio, and as an experiment, I will try this out! Hello synthesizers! Today I would like to ask all of you (and you, @Andrew Kirby, specifically), which software would you choose and why if you were just starting out to build your personal knowledge management system? My perspective is coming from the concept of the 2nd brain from Tiago Forte where you have a system to store information/knowledge, make the connections between that stored information/knowledge and then use that create. Whether you create for yourself or in order to share value with others is an afterthought. I'm personally interested in using a system like that in order to get as deep as I can on what I learn and be able to create wisdom that will bring value for others by helping them solve their problems. I want the wisdom I create to be problem solving and actionable. PS: Please try to put aside the fact that you maybe have been using Evernote for 10 years and you don't want to switch or something like that. Please recommend me what would you use if you were just starting out now from scratch.
