I got three emails today. Three different companies. Same answer when I asked about communication skills development. We have resources for that. A PDF. An online module. Maybe a handbook. Handed out, then worked through on their own time. We wouldn’t expect a nurse to learn their skills from a PDF. We wouldn’t hand a tradie a manual and call it done. They need the reps. So does it feel right that human skills are suitable for a PDF?
Nonviolent communication
Words and the way they are used make a huge difference in every situation a person may find themselves in. Unfortunately, a large portion of the population aren’t exactly precise in their word choices. And more often than not, this can lead to a problem becoming worse than it could have been. Or even creating whole new problems. I would be surprised if anyone reading this hasn’t experienced this to be the case. So what is violent communication? Statements that convey a moralistic Judgement (you’re being unreasonable, you’re lazy). Making comparisons (leading to feelings of inadequacy) Denial of responsibility (avoiding taking responsibility for one’s own emotional responses and subsequent actions) Demanding (making demands instead of requests) Threats (explicit or implicit threats used to manipulate or control others) What is nonviolent communication? Observation: stating facts without judgement or Evaluation Feelings: honestly expressing what you are feeling as a result of the observation. Needs: identifying the needs connected with your feelings. What needs are being met, unmet? Requests: making clear, specific, and doable requests. What specific action do you need the other person to take. Anyone interested in knowing more, leave a comment stating, “ I want to learn.”

@Liam Gallagher everyone wants to get their point across and forget you need to just listen sometimes. Nothing worse than getting interrupted when it’s your time to speak.

Best Leaders Aren't the Loudest
The best leaders aren't the loudest people in the room. They're the ones who know when to say nothing. Thoughts? 👇

@Arlyn Smith it’s an accumulation of small positive actions over a prolonged period of time that make the best leaders. You don’t need a title to be labeled a leader.
