Story Writing as the launchpad for a workshop
Something that I enjoy doing, and perhaps uniquely so, is story writing. Possibly born from Safe 4.0 training as a way for me to communicate process in a way that resonated between the doers (who want to write โ€œgimme a button thereโ€ and get their bonus by doing 100s of those) and the dreamers (who want to conquer the ever changing landscape of their industry faster than everyone else). Listening to the free call today (Thanks Tim!) i am taking the call to action to post my question about detailed story writing of the format: AS a [role] I want/need/should have [a thing built] SO THAT I CAN [complete a goal] WHICH WILL ALLOW US TO [manifest the dreamers dream] The idea of the opening of the facilitation I am selling is to create alignment of roles, things, goals, and dreams by having the participants write stories in the morning that generate note and vote how might we discussions as calibration and communication with active listening as I guide them to and through their needs and wants and blockages. Could have posted and may also in workshoper master and may also, but was going to ask โ€œDoes anyone else plan or use story writing as a tool in their design sprint work and what other exercises are good for galvanizing what comes out of that activity?โ€ Thanks in advance for the answers and as a fun example -> as a future successful workshopper I want to get feedback about my idea to use stories so that I can work on my business plan which will allow me to show up and advertise my one thing and get clients :)

Hi @Dan Blackman and thank @Andra Stefanescu yes I do use stories in my sprints and workshops. What I like about your framework it to add the user (or dreamer) outcome in the story. You want to avoid ยซย as a user I want a print button so I can print.ย ยป which is kind of void. What I do is usually to start with the users outcomes (what the product/service Will enable the user to achieve beside the product/service itself. For eg. I want to print becomes > I want to have a physical archive or I want to have something I can annotate during a live meetingโ€ฆ) then putting them in a story format like As (role) in (context) I want to achieve (outcome) so that (benefit). This gives the WHY we want to do something. Then I use your story structure to idรฉale and break down the HOW to do it the best.
LSP
I am wondering if anyone here has had any success in integrating aspects of LSP (LEGO Serious Play) into their workshops? I have done it as an ice breaker as EVERYONE loves to play with little plastic building blocks!!!

I had a superb introduction to LSP by a member of the workshopped master community, it was incredible and incredibly powerful. But also with great power comes great responsibility. ๐Ÿ˜‰

@Emma Parkes I think Some list of Lego starting pack can be found online. You donโ€™t need to start with the official pack and can order the bricks individually online. But I still recommend a good variety of bricks and of course the same pack for everyone.
This blew my mind ๐Ÿ’Ž
Hey Facilitators! Last week @Rebecca Courtney hosted a special facilitation-themed live training, and it was PURE VALUE. Hundreds of people from all over the world tuned in to learn about: - The crucial role facilitation plays in driving success for your team in 2023. - The secrets to fixing broken collaboration and unlocking true team synergy. - The seven core facilitation skills. - How you can get a special, limited-time discount on our new program, Facilitation Fundamentals. My favorite part of the training was Rebecca discussing the Diamond of Participatory Decision Making (watch that part in the preview). When I first learned about this group process coined by Sam Kaner, it seriously blew my mind... I finally fully understood why we need Facilitators (and why Facilitators should unapologetically be charging top dollar for their invaluable services ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐Ÿ’ฐ) You can unlock the complete training here if you want to learn more. What's your take on the Diamond of Participatory Decision Making? Do you think it can transform the way teams collaborate and make decisions?

Agenda for a 1.5 day โ‚ฌ25k Team Retreat
Hey everyone! Last year, we had an absolutely delightful 1.5-day team retreat with a major corporate group at our AJ&Smart office in Berlin. Let me tell you, it was GREAT! We got creative with the LDJ Royale and added some cool activities for starting strong and ending even stronger. Here are some highlights: - @Jonathan Courtney facilitated the session with help from @Rebecca Courtney - We didn't have any slides! We went all authentic and created all the visuals by hand on a massive King Flipchart. - We added excursions like a walk to our local ice cream shop and a meetup at our favorite cafe on day two (very much inspired by The Power of Moments). - The feedback from the client was the icing on the cake โ€“ โ€œeverything was perfectโ€! That made us super happy! Here's how the days unfolded: Day 1: - We started with a light intro to workshopping. - Warmup: An improv exercise we learned from a public speaking coach, David JP Phillips - We then dived into the Sailboat activity, where we crafted a challenge statement. - And then, the much-awaited LUNCH! - After lunch, we dived into Lightning Demos and 10 for 10. - We concluded with reflections on the day and shared what we learned about workshopping โ€“ as we brought in some Champagne! ๐Ÿพ - We ended the day with a dinner in one of our favorite restaurants near the office. Day 2: - We started with a talk on the 4C's Framework and the principles of Workshopping. - We continued with The Action Board (and it worked very well!) - The Tony Robbins "Gratitude Meditation" really resonated (there may have been a tear or two). - LUNCH with a side of Champagne was a lovely touch. The LDJ Royale was a great choice for the team retreat. Itโ€™s always amazing to see the principles we teach in our courses come to life and make an impact. โšก๏ธโšก๏ธโšก๏ธโšก๏ธโšก๏ธ We regularly share "inside scoop" posts like this inside our Workshopper Master community (our high-level program/community for those who want to build a high-paid Facilitation career). DM me if you want to learn more about joining! ๐Ÿค—

London Physical Meetup for Innovators and Facilitators - 24 May
Hey all, I posted a proposal to allow people in London (England) to meet up, network and chat a few weeks back. I've managed to secure a great spot adjacent and overlooking the Tower of London. The event is posted on Meetup and I'm in the process of posting it far and wide, Please feel free to help me get it out there! It'd be great to build some momentum here and my motivation is purely to get to know more expereinced facilitators. I'm trying to make a transistion from being an Army Officer (Gurkha Engineers) to the resl world and am passionate about this space. Link: https://www.meetup.com/london_innovation_network/events/293465328/ if you dont have access or want to create a meetup account, please message me and I'll add you. Where: Citizen M Tower Hill (Floor 7 then upto the mezzanine or balcony if the weather is good to enjoy the amazing view) When: 1830 - 2100 on Wed 24 May 22 and then monthly at same time. What: Informal Innovation and Facilitation chats and a little speed networking (20 mins). Future events may have a little more structure.....just need to work that out. I hope to see you there and look forward to meeting you. Dave
