A church service where we met a new couple that were so nice and then dinner with family. My little food win was 2 different veggies on my plate and no bread. But then I had a piece of gf carrot cake... do I count that as another veg? lol
This Week's Plant-Based Focus: Water + Hydration
I know, I know. You've heard it a thousand times. But hear me out, because I think the way most of us think about hydration is actually missing the point. It's not just about hitting some a certain number of glasses. It's about understanding that almost every single symptom women come to me with, the fatigue, the brain fog, the headaches, the afternoon crashes, the skin issues, dehydration is somewhere in that picture. I've become almost obsessive about this over the past year and the difference it's made in how I feel day to day is hard to overstate. Here's what's actually helped me stay consistently hydrated: โ€ข ๐—ฆ๐˜๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐˜ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚'๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ฟ๐˜€๐˜๐˜†. By the time you feel thirsty, you're already mildly dehydrated, and mild dehydration is enough to affect your energy, your focus, and your mood. I start every single morning with a big glass of water before anything else, even before my matcha. ๐Ÿ’ง โ€ข ๐—”๐—ฑ๐—ฑ ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—น๐˜†๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€, ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜ ๐—ท๐˜‚๐˜€๐˜ ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ. Plain water doesn't hydrate you as efficiently without minerals to pull it into your cells. A pinch of good quality sea salt, some lemon juice, or a clean electrolyte powder can make a real difference, especially if you're active or drinking a lot of coffee. โ€ข ๐—˜๐—ฎ๐˜ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐˜„๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ. This is one of my favorite things about a plant-based diet, so many whole foods are naturally high in water content. Cucumber, celery, watermelon, zucchini, leafy greens, you're hydrating every time you eat them. ๐Ÿฅ’ โ€ข ๐—ง๐—ถ๐—ฒ ๐—ถ๐˜ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ๐˜† ๐—ฑ๐—ผ. I drink a full glass before every meal, which also happens to support digestion and takes the edge off hunger before I sit down to eat. Habit stacking is honestly the only reason I'm consistent with this. โ€ข ๐—ช๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐˜„๐—ต๐—ฎ๐˜'๐˜€ ๐—ฑ๐—ฒ๐—ต๐˜†๐—ฑ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚. Coffee, alcohol, and high sodium processed foods all pull water out of your body. I'm not saying cut them out, just factor them in and compensate accordingly. โ€ข ๐—ก๐—ผ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐˜€๐˜†๐—บ๐—ฝ๐˜๐—ผ๐—บ๐˜€ ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚ ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฐ๐—ต ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ ๐˜€๐—ผ๐—บ๐—ฒ๐˜๐—ต๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฒ๐—น๐˜€๐—ฒ. Headache? Drink water first. Energy crash at 3pm? Drink water first. Skin feeling dull? You already know what I'm going to say.

To try to get myself away from drinking soda (regular Coke is my bad, bad habit), I started using Ultima electrolyte mixes. My sister got me hooked on the cranberry cosmo flavor with seltzer water. I also really like the pink lemonade and blue raspberry. All natural, gluten-free, and vegan. A little pricey but it's been worth it.
