Margaret McKenny and Middle Waddell Campgrounds and Day Use Areas will not open for the Summer 2026 season due to public safety risks from hazard trees. Two popular campgrounds and day use areas managed by the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will not reopen for the Summer 2026 season due to hazard trees in the area. Margaret McKenny and Middle Waddell Campgrounds and Day Use Areas are in Capitol State Forest in Thurston County, near Olympia, Washington and are popular recreation sites for hikers, campers, equestrians, and motorized use. Both sites typically open for the season on May 1. Middle Waddell contains 33 campsites, and Margaret McKenny includes 20 sites. Day Use areas and trailheads located at both campgrounds will also be closed for the time being. While doing routine inspections of the area, DNR staff determined that a significant number of trees in the area were infected with laminated root rot. The trees pose a public safety risk and are hazardous. To effectively remove the trees, the areas must remain closed for hazard tree mitigation. DNR advises recreators to seek other opportunities in the area, and to avoid areas closed due to safety hazards. Dispersed camping is not permitted in Capitol State Forest. DNR’s website will be updated as work progresses, and following reopening of the sites: https://dnr.wa.gov/forest-and-trust-lands/capitol-state-foresthttps://dnr.wa.gov/forest-and-trust-lands/capitol-state-forest

@Tara Buel have a tree trimming company come out to your house. I've removed several trees and they are usually a few hundred dollars.
Let’s actually get to know each other in here 👇
As communities grow, it gets harder to know who people really are behind the profile. So let’s fix that 👇 Let’s keep this simple: → where are you from? → one thing you enjoy outside of horses → something random or interesting about you Drop a quick intro below 👇 would be good to know who’s in here

I'm in Shelton, and I love living on my little farm. I also enjoy reading mysteries, rider autobiographies, and horse care books. I have 2 wonderful dogs. I also offer boarding space for 2 horses to keep my gelding company.

How do we find out who all the members are? I'm only able to see 30 out of 81. Thanks, Sadie, for adding me. 🥰

@Sadie Smathers I have the same issue. No next page, and only showing 30 members out of 86.

I see some on the map. I dont know how accurate it is, but yes. Interesting that it's not as intuitive as you would think on that feature. Thanks for the tip.
After today’s clinic, I’m curious… 👇
What’s something in your horse journey that still challenges you or makes you a little nervous? Is it: A) Backing a trailer 😅 B) Riding a problem horse 🐎 C) Confidence in general D) Something else (drop it in the comments) No judgment here—this is exactly why we’re building this community 💪 Let’s talk about it!

@Sadie Smathers what's your solution?

Thanks. Yes, it makes sense. That is a scenario that can come up with many horses and I'm always interested to hear different approaches. :)
