🦶🏼Ground Connection: Owning the 3 Pressure Points🦶🏼
Every powerful, consistent swing starts with one thing: your connection to the ground. Most hitters get this wrong. They think power comes from pushing off the back leg or driving the knee forward. But when you do that, you lose your anchor, disconnect from the ground, and your rotation leaks. Instead, we want to create a stable base through 3 pressure points in each foot: 1. Knuckle of the big toe 2. Knuckle of the pinky toe 3. Heel These are your “tripod” points. When all 3 stay connected, your foot is locked into the ground like a suction cup. Why This Matters When you stay connected to the ground through these 3 points: - ✅ Your pelvis and trunk drive the swing (the true middle of your body), instead of the knee or foot trying to “push.” - ✅ You get pure rotation — fast, tight, and controlled. - ✅ You maintain balance and stability throughout the stride, contact, and finish. - ✅ Your back foot doesn’t spin off early. Instead, the violent pull of your rotation naturally peels the foot out of the ground. This is what creates that explosive, whip-like swing you see from elite hitters. Common Mistakes ❌ Driving the knee toward the pitcher — leads to leaking energy and drifting. ❌ Pushing off the backside — makes the hips slide instead of rotate. ❌ Coming up on the toes too early — breaks the chain of connection and balance. How to Train It 1. Barefoot Swings / Tee Work → Feel all 3 points gripping the ground. 2. Med Ball Rotations → Keep pressure points anchored while rotating the trunk. 3. PVC Pipe Turns → Focus on rotating the pelvis around a fixed base, keeping the tripod connected. 💡 Remember: The ground is your power source. Hold the tripod connection → Rotate from the middle → Let the swing peel your foot off the ground. That’s how you create precision and violence in the same move. @Ben Chin @Aidan Chard
