Why I Made My Skool Community Public
When I decided to make my community public, I got a lot of questions. But the main one was always the same. Why? 🤷‍♀️ The answer is that there are several reasons. I wanted to explain them, especially if you are thinking about whether you should have one too. I have always recommended having a public Skool community alongside whatever you are doing on Skool. Whether you are running your own community or supporting someone else, it is something I genuinely believe in and have told people to do for a long time. Especially now that we have the option of a $9 hobby plan community, but even when there was only the $99 option, I still saw it as one of the cheapest forms of SEO and marketing you could invest in. Do you know how much it costs to have someone do SEO for you? A good one can cost a lot, so this is super affordable. But at a certain point I realized something. Even if I understand how valuable it is and can explain what to do and how to do it, a lot of people need to actually see it. They need a real example. Something visual and hands-on. I get it.. I learn better that way too! 😅 Why am I so sure everyone should have one? I have tested the power of a public community on Skool, and I also know how powerful SEO is from long before Skool even existed. That combination is what made the decision obvious for me. Let me ask you this.. If you saw what YouTube looked like before it got big, or what TikTok looked like before it took off, and you understood the potential back then, would you not lean into it and tell others to do the same? That is where I believe Skool is at right now, and where the real opportunity is with AI discoverability. You're not too late to the game and you don't need to feel FOMO, because you're here right now. Another big reason is time. ⏳ I only have so much time in a day and everyone wants some of it, and I genuinely want to give it. But I am still only human with life happening. I am a single mom, I homeschool my little one, and I am everyone’s go-to person.

I had wrestled with this for some time... trying to figure out what the actual difference was. At first I thought "private" sounded higher-tier and would attract only those who were the right fit. (True), but I found that tire-kickers often times became good members. I can deal with the nutters pretty easily.
Wise Words From Sam Ovens
I saw a comment from Sam this morning and I thought I'd share it all with you. For me, I believe this is something a lot of people face, especially when building their business/community.

Matthew’s Skool Growth Strategy: 7 Day Free Trials and Affiliates
Just posted the replay and this might be the most practical Skool growth system you will see… that anyone can do. Yes, even brand new beginners. @Matthew Thompson shared how he built a very engaged community using a 7 day free trial, a simple affiliate model, and no social media or content creation. He is currently ranked number two in the Skool Games for his category and earned the Star badge as one of the top one percent of creators on the platform. This strategy is perfect if you • Do not have a big audience • Do not want to be online all day • Want something simple that still scales You will see how Matthew • Created a 7 day challenge that actually converts • Turned new members into referrers without asking • Designed an onboarding flow that keeps people active and engaged • Built a trust loop that grows the community on its own If you are curious what it actually feels like to be inside this kind of Skool experience, now is the perfect time to jump in and see it from the inside. If you know the Alex Hormozi pitch, it’s the same energy here. You can make an educated decision from the inside. No pressure, just results. Plus, you get to be a part of the mission Matthew talked about in the video and also see if this is a money model you want to give a shot. Just by doing the 7 day free trial. 👉 Click here to join the free 7-day challenge 👈 🎁 Matthew has also agreed to host a private call for us on the topic of eliminating distraction while working. This is only for people who join using this link in the next 24 hours. He usually only shares this inside his $10k/year mastermind. 🎁🎁 For anyone that joins with this link in the next 24 hours and does all 7 day check in posts inside the community, I will be doing my own Matthew Thompson style spin the wheel giveaway for $100! Plus, everyone that does the full 7 days will also get a code for the Alex Hormozi $100M Money Model book (shipping excluded), because I believe Matthew’s money model is something everyone here could implement. (Whether or not you stay in the community.)

So glad Matthew is back. Wondered where he wandered off to! Really using the 7-day FREE trial as your instant proof is fantastic. Never thought of it that way. No wonder so few sign up. 7-day Free seem worrisome - like, of course, you're going to turn it back in... instead of "I might actually see success in just 7 days."
Are You Making These 3 Skool Mistakes? 📽️ New Video Out
It’s completely normal to bring habits over from other platforms. But Skool works differently, and some of those habits can quietly hold you back. If you’ve been wondering why things feel off… wondering why what used to work is not working now… or you’ve been stuck in planning mode trying to “get it right” before inviting people in… this video will help! It walks through 3 common mistakes that make it harder for your community to grow, connect, or feel alive. If the video helps, like and subscribe so you don’t miss future ones. And if you know someone just getting started, send it their way. 🫶 👇 Which one of these have you run into already? (Mine is in the comments)

I think we've all done a little bit of this along the way... live and learn. thanks for the reminder. Think my weakest point is that I want to get out so much info that I'm "lecturing" instead of leading... by questioning (Socratic learning).
You Can Start A Community For $9/m Now! (Peek At Downgrading)
On Skool News today they announced that you can now start a new community for only $9 a month! Amazing, right?! You can see it on the pricing page here. But here is what you need to know. I downgraded a community to show you what it looks like. (All pictures included, so if you're on a phone.. swipe!) You lose: Custom URL All the links that originally posted somewhere will FAIL (go change them) Transaction fees go from 2.9% to 10% Suggested groups will show on side bar You only get 1 admin/moderator (YOU the owner) You lose access to PRO plugins You lose access to affiliates Your cover photo will have a powered by Skool banner Before you can downgrade, you may need to do a few tasks like: If you have a moderator or admin, you will have to downgrade them. Turn off the pro plugins. Turn off affiliates. If someone starts a Skool community from your $9/m community, you won't be auto given the affiliate. You can still get them as an affiliate, if you give them your affiliate link. IF you have people that had a community as an affiliate underneath you, then you will still get a commission for a $9/m community if they downgrade. If someone starts as a $9/m community and they upgrade, you'll get the upgraded affiliate amount. Who are you bringing to Skool? Are you starting a $9/m community?

@Jenna Ostrye THANK YOU! Was going round and round. Of course, I get why Sam wouldn't want it to be found easily.

Learned that my charge date wasn't at the end of the month, but mid-month. Guess I'll keep it pro until then.
