For me, it’s all about feel. (I tend to like Industrial, Gothic sounds) I already know what kinds of sounds I like, so it’s about choosing and then shaping the sounds. Layering is helpful, but only for some sounds. This is going to sound really strange, but have you ever made like a sound bank? And write descriptions for these sounds? It might help you process what you tend to go for.

@Djoo Rain Hmm then I guess it’s about what you’re going for? Maybe some sounds are perfect for your use and maybe some are good for others to use (omg maybe make a sample pack or something!).. It seems to me that you might be getting overwhelmed by the sounds themselves… When I get deep into sound selection, I decide to make an individual beat with each sound to see what will allow itself to be turned into a cool backing track. @Jean Paul Yes, but how quick is that break for you? How much time do you need to get rejuvenated? A few hours or days? Weeks or months even? And what’s worked for you to shorten that timeline?

@Sebastian Gavris Love this answer! Do you find that it takes you a few days of doing this or maybe a break for a day doing these other tasks for the soft reset? And as for the shadow work, what do you use as a guide?
