Guitar Gains #8: Lydian Legato Shred
This lick is in C Lydian, and since C Lydian uses the same notes as E natural minor, the shapes should feel familiar right away. The difference is in the phrasing and where the line resolves, but mechanically it’s the same material you already know. As I explain in the video, take your time with each of the six-note sequences. A good approach is to learn each one cleanly in position, then start connecting them like this: • 1 and 2 • 2 and 3 • 3 and 4 • 4 and 5 • etc. This helps you smooth out the transitions and makes it much easier to play the entire line at speed. The descending run at the end can be challenging if your pull-offs and string crossings aren’t fully solid yet. That’s completely normal — and it’s a clear sign that your pull-off technique needs a bit of refinement. If you get this part right, your legato improves much faster overall. If you want to download the Guitar Pro, MIDI, and PDF files for this lesson, they’re inside the Guitar Gains course in the Classroom (Premium tier). And if the descending run feels uneven or hard to control, the Legato Deep Dive in the Classroom walks you through exactly how to build clean, strong, reliable pull-offs. It fixes the core issue instead of just adding more exercises. It’s available in the Premium tier if you want to dig deeper. f you want a full structured system, weekly livestream Q & A, all Deep Dives, courses and a personal practice thread, join Practice Room Pro.
