LSS Certification completed!
When I applied for my commission, I originally thought I’d just do some GNW work to stay busy. But the deeper I looked into the industry, the more I wanted to become an LSA. Before long, I was following notary groups (and quickly learning which ones to avoid), watching trainers, and soaking up every bit of information I could find. Then came the laser printer, the mobile scanner, and “just one more certification” because I realized there was so much more to learn. I can’t get enough of this field. I genuinely want to do this the right way and build something professional and lasting. I even taught myself how to build my own website — and if that’s not a sign I mean business, I don’t know what is. I’m excited to see where this journey takes me.

Scheduled for 10 AM… confirmed for 4:30 PM 👀
We had a signing originally set for 10 AM But the notary confirmed it with the signers for 4:30 PM instead Later, the realtor complained to title saying: “The notary changed the time for her own convenience” The notary’s explanation? "The signers’ witness was only available at 4:30 PM” The real problem? ❌ The time was changed without checking with us first Even with a valid reason, changes like this need approval because title, realtor, and all parties may already be coordinating around the original time. 👉 Have you ever had a signer ask to change the time after the appointment was already confirmed? How did you handle it?

I had to postpone signing because a credible witness was needed. I called the NNA to verify my options regarding the ID requirements in an AKA situation. I called the signing service and let them know we had an issue. I was told I could reschedule. I talked to the signer and we agreed to reschedule when she was able to secure her witness and if I was unavailable I would have someone else scheduled for her convenience (with the signing service). When I followed up with her, she said someone had called and told her they would be her scheduling contact.. I said, that’s great, they will let me know if they need me to come out, have a great week.

Welcome! I lived in Olympia for 20yrs before we moved to Maryland. People get really confused here when if I say I used to live in Washington. lol
Before your very first signing… 👀
What’s one thing you wish someone had told you beforehand? • Something you learned the hard way • Something that surprised you • Or something that would’ve saved you stress. Could be about: 📄 Documents 🖊️ The signing table 📞 Communication 🚗 Scanbacks / shipping 😬 Nervousness Let’s help the newer notaries in the community by sharing real experiences 👇

Trust your instincts. And I wish I had signed up for LSS sooner. My first sellers doc went 2 1/2 hrs due to an indecisive seller. I couldn’t pinpoint where I went wrong but it hit my confidence enough to make me turn to Mark for guidance. I listened to his soft skills talk today and it turns out I can be proud of how I handled the situation. There will be times where patience is the best tool in my belt. There really wasn’t much I couldn’t done to speed things along and I really appreciated hearing him reiterate that it’s not about how fast we get through a signing, it’s about the customer experience. The other thing that I love is that reminder that I’m a business owner not an employee. So if I don’t want to rush my customer along, I don’t have to!
