I want to update something about CapCut I first posted when I came to the community.
CapCut quietly updated its Terms of Service on January 22, 2026, and here is the headline for creators: You keep the rights to your work. Your videos, edits, and original content remain yours. CapCut receives a license to host and process your content to provide the service, but ownership stays with you. If you create for YouTube, Skool, or paid programs, this clarification matters. Your brand, your footage, your IP remain under your control, subject to any third party assets you choose to use. This is totally different than what I found when I first looked at CapCut last year, and posted about it here shortly after I joined. BUSINESS USE CASES: CapCut is now usable for commercial production. You retain ownership of your original work. However, you assume nearly all legal and operational risk. For a business, best practice is: • Use only assets with clearly confirmed commercial rights • Avoid relying on platform music unless separately licensed • Maintain independent backups of all projects • Avoid making CapCut your sole production or storage layer • Review the Materials License Agreement in detail before monetizing I wanted to be sure to highlight this update for you.
