Social Media for Homestead Businesses Part 1
Why Your Homestead Is Already Content For those of you looking to turn your homestead into a business, social media can be a great marketing tool. You don’t need a perfect farm, a massive following, or picture-perfect Instagram shots to have content worth sharing. In fact, your everyday homestead life is already full of stories, lessons, and inspiration that other people are craving. People don’t follow perfection; they follow journeys. They want to see what’s real: the triumphs, the challenges, and the simple routines that make your homestead work. Over the next couple weeks, I’ll be sharing a series of tips for how to use social media for your homestead business. 1️⃣ Document > Create You don’t always have to “craft” content. Sometimes the best posts come from simply documenting what’s happening on your homestead. These small moments tell your story in a way that feels genuine and approachable. - Taking a quick photo of your chickens scratching in the yard. - Sharing a short video of your seed trays popping up. - Showing your bread rising or the compost turning. 2️⃣ Teach What You’re Learning Even if you’re still figuring things out, your experience is valuable. - Just planted your first tomato seedlings? Share what worked and what didn’t. - Learned a new trick for pruning fruit trees? Others will want to know. - Made a mistake with canning or sourdough? Your lesson can save someone else time and frustration. 3️⃣ Show Systems, Not Just Results Instead of only showing the finished product like a lush garden or a basket of eggs, show the systems that got you there. - How you rotate crops in your garden. - Your weekly chore schedule. - How you organize supplies or prep for winter. 4️⃣ Your “Normal” Is Someone Else’s Inspiration What might feel mundane to you could be exactly the inspiration someone else needs. It’s all part of your story, and people love seeing authentic, everyday homestead life. “What part of your homestead feels ‘too ordinary’ to share?”

I'm not sure if anything is "too ordinary" for sharing. What I've been doing is writing a story from the perspective of my chickens. It's silly, but I love doing it, and it keeps me in tune with what's happening with them. I've just started down the social media aspect of my homesteading journey. I actually have a YouTube channel that I started a few months ago, nothing is on it yet, because I have issues on where to begin. haha I started the channel it's called Roo'd Aussies Wacky Ramblings and it was originally going to be just about what I read, I read and review a lot of books each year. But then I decided I also want to share real life stuff, like my chickens, my garden, my orchard and just life in general with some good Aussie photos tossed in for fun. So now it's all a learning process for me. And I have absolutely no clue on how to begin because my ADHD and OCD are fighting each other for that role. haha

Hi all my name is Christina, I am originally from NJ, FL and Michigan, but am living the dream in Queensland Australia. We purchased our first home...sad that it took us over 60 years to get it, but here we are. We moved here on January 1st of 2024. Its only 1/4 acre but we have already put in 40 different fruit trees, bushes and vines. Have built a chicken coop/run/food forest for the chickens *that part is still in progress*, and have a fully enclosed garden to keep wildlife out. We also have a greenhouse which is going to be growing things that do not do well in the hot aussie sun like lettuce, and all will be grown hydroponically to try to save water. It takes us a bit longer to do anything due to our disabilities, but we are doing it! I'm the mother of 5, with my youngest being home educated, he's 22 now almost 23 so he is no longer being homeschooled but we had to because the system failed him. My youngest two are unvaccinated and the only ones without health issues. My middle daughter had a vaccine reaction, wound up with her pancreas dying a known side effect from the DPT vaccine and now thanks to giving in and getting the Co jab she has MS which was triggered by the vax. I'm not anti-vax, but I am against people not having informed consent on what goes into their kids bodies. I joined this community because I am looking for like minded people who I can either assist on their journey, and also to possibly learn something new from others. I love sharing ideas and learning new recipes. We are just starting out on our journey to self-sufficiency, sure we did some things in the past and lived on very low income for years while home educating, but now we have moved out to the bush in our own home, and are just trying to live life as cheaply and be as self-sufficient as we can possibly be. I'm starting down my canning and preserving path now as my fruit trees are starting to produce fruit. It's so nice to meet all of you.
