I agree that a lot of the advice is overkill. But there is a case for it. I am/was a software dev/data engineer and wanted to get more conversant with the server and network engineers where I worked. Often times, I passed off infrastructure setup to someone else and was pushing the limits of what our IT organization was good at. I had to wait for them to learn containerization/K8s, certs, firewalls and just general linux command line familiarity. We are/were a Windows shop and if you couldn't point and click, staff wasa stymied. Summing up, set that stuff up if you want to learn and apply it in the enterprise, not because you, the spouse and kids need it at home. :)
