I was playing a silly computer game the other day and it was so addicting and fun it was haaaard to stop (Thanks God it was a small game that can be completed in like 2 hours, I 100% it) It got me thinking, how can we make language learning as addicting and fun as possible. And I started experimenting with it with some students in private lesson and I think I figured it out. (Of course different technique is needed with different level, but let's do an example with a total beginner) We got to minimize any chance of "losing". For example, if I make you read something, and you make a pronunciation mistake.. that is kind of a "losing" cause I got to correct you now. And then, if I ask you what that word meant, and you don't know it. We are wasting time again, because you don't know it ! And then I explain Here is how I would do that while minimizing the losing and time waste. I read first, you copy/shadow me. You already have a much higher chance of getting it right, which means you "win" way more than the previous version where you are going blind into it. Then I simply tell you what it means. If you knew it, you "won", if you didn't knew it, you "learned". All that without any wasted time trying to pronounce/think about something you don't know This way, we reduce friction by a lot and it doesn't feel like a chore !
