Dementia Caregiving is Different: The Task May Be Harder Than It Looks
A task that seems simple and routine to us may require multiple cognitive, sensory, motor, and emotional steps for the person living with dementia, thus shifting from routine to difficult or unable to perform, and even causing frustration and behaviors. So, their refusal may just be a response to a task that's become too difficult. What is one task your loved one used to do easily that now seems to create frustration or resistance?

My loved one has decided she only wants to eat ice cream. She will eat other food but I have to promise her an ice cream sandwich. I let her have them because she loves them so much and so do I.

Hello! I am Cheree and I am caring for my mother who has dementia. It is in our family history however, this is my first time caring for someone with this disease. She is becoming combative but wants to stay in her home. I am looking for advice and how to not agitate her. Thank you for letting me into the group.
