Understanding the adjustments journey
Hello! We have been seeing Simon for adjustments to assist with our 9-week old’s tongue tie. Also has a lip tie. Feeding has always been pretty good… comfortable for me and he is easily putting on weight. However wind/gas has been an issue and I notice he seems to be tiring from feeds (difficult to separate from normal newborn tiredness though..). As parents we are reading up as much as we can to understand tongue tie and all possible effects over the long term. Post-appointments we are seeing good results from improved breathing, latch strength greater range of movement in the tongue. His snuffly nose really clears up after an adjustment too. A lingering question seems to be whether adjustments can fully address potential issues or if there is ever a reason to combine body work with a cut to release. I suspect I already know the answer but in the spirit of “all questions welcome” I’m putting it out there! Another query I have is around identifying whether methylation and homocysteine are contributing factors now. Should I be getting a blood test to identify pathway issues so that I can help my child through breastfeeding or just focus on getting the nutrition right? Many thanks, Chelsea & Michael

Thanks for these thorough responses, Jennifer. Yes - we eat good quality grass fed meats and make broths, use organs etc. A good reminder to keep these up, love a pate and gelatinous broth! I was able to eat really well during my daughter’s pregnancy (she’s now 4 but as a toddler was loving lamb chops, natural oysters and pate) however my son’s pregnancy was rougher and I suffered from aversions and sickness which potentially didn’t help. Interesting to read about a reference to histamines and longer-simmered bone broth in another post; I had a recent bout of swollen tongue and ulcers that I suspect may have been related to histamine and I had also been consuming a broth that I’d simmered for days… going to try a shorter simmer meat broth from your recipe. Have also been taking glycine on Simon’s recommendation. Haven’t taken activated or methylated supplements (that I’m aware of). Have been big on Chinese herbs for support. Tresos Pro Natal + during pregnancy and Naturobest third trimester and breastfeeding support now, which contains folinate. Re: addressing the tongue, understanding tightness and working to optimise function and movement has been really helpful. There has definitely been improvement. The lingering question is the tether right at the tip and whether this has to go (the tissue behind the tether actually has a hole in it and potentially may stretch/resolve itself?). But body work would be a priority as we realise this is vital. Thanks again for addressing these queries. It’s reassuring to talk through the factors to consider from a holistic perspective.

Thanks; great example with the baby and similar to the outcomes we have experienced with Simon. So much to the story behind addressing the superficial issue. I will continue with Naturobest.
