Day 2 — Rhythm Focus: FEEL
Quick reminder — if you’ve been through the workshop, take a bit of time to fill out the two worksheets and share them with me when you’re ready. They’re there to help you clarify your practice — not to get them “right”. For today’s focus, I’m curious:What rhythmic feels do you tend to struggle with most? (One word answers are perfect.)

Funky feels.
Virtual Practice - 8am Los Angeles Time
Like I said in the session, doing some step, clap, and say primed me to play my guitar in "time" (as much as I could given a new challenging piece I'm working on). It's amazing how a few minutes of this type of body work put me in a zone for time keeping. Great session!
TOMORROW'S WORKSHOP - LET'S GO! 🔥
Really looking forward to Connect Your Groove tomorrow. Here's what we'll cover: - Your Practice Toolkit — exercises you can use immediately - The 3 Layers of Rhythm — Pulse, Subdivision, Phrasing - Rhythm Practice Path — foundational material to build from - The Triangle of Inner Pulse method — the approach I developed through working with West African master drummers and London's F-ire and Loop Collective Quick prep: ✅ Join 5 mins early (1:55pm UK) ✅ Grab something to make notes ✅ Find a quiet space to focus ✅ Make sure you have room to move — we'll be stepping, clapping, grooving together! Thursday 2pm UK (9am EST / 6am PST) Who's in? Drop a comment if you're coming live! 👇 Dave

I also took the course and it is well worth it! The pacing is very good and the exercises helped me improve my sense of timing. Can't say enough about using your body as a metronome! I definitely want to revisit the lessons.

@Richard McCracken your post sounds like me! I also play guitar (mostly electric) with backing tracks and jam with others. I am always nervous that I'm going to play off time. While I get away with playing well most of the time, I always feel lucky to have played with the rhythm rather than feeling that I felt the groove. I want to get to the point where I can internalize the groove and play freely.
