My Journey Toward My First Client
Hey, been quiet here, so I wanted to post this as a way to make up for it. These are some of the things I’ve learned along my journey (still haven’t reached my goal yet haha :’)). I’ve always wanted to work online. The idea of making money from clicking buttons always attracted me. I knew it wasn’t that easy, and I was aware of the noise, overpromises, and inflated outcomes, so I decided to learn from YouTube. I landed on automation (it was trending haha, and still is). I started with n8n. That’s when I found the Ryan & Matt Data Science channel, and at that time Ryan had just posted the 17-hour course. I watched all of it, and it gave me a really solid foundation. Then I said, okay, now it’s time to make money lol. At first, I thought “automation specialist” was enough. It isn’t. It’s too vague to be useful, especially when you’re unknown. That’s when I learned about niches. I chose to focus on lead handling systems and CRMs. That decision came from digging through discussions on Reddit and also talking with LLMs. Not perfect sources, but enough to start seeing patterns. Then I built. I put together a full system inside n8n. I was proud and thought now it’s time to make money. But reality hit. No one shows up just because you built something. I needed to learn how to sell my services. So I started learning sales, watching tutorials, and discovered people like Alex Hormozi. I tried cold outreach, then decided to focus on LinkedIn. That’s when I realized I skipped an important step, validating the niche. So I went back, asked people, did more research, and rebuilt the whole system again. This time with clearer assumptions, even if they are still assumptions. I also documented everything. Now I’m trying to build my presence on LinkedIn by connecting with ICPs, posting regularly, learning how to write better posts, and doing targeted outreach instead of mass messaging. Right now it’s simple, just a few connections a day, staying consistent. At the moment, I’m dealing with a few constraints. I still don’t have real proof since I don’t have clients yet, which makes validation weak. I’m also not sure if the volume of outreach I’m doing is enough, especially when I see people running large campaigns. And my communication skills still need work.

GOT MY FIRST CLIENT!!
it's been a long journey (well.. almost 1+ year) Started with make.com, shifted to n8n, watched shi ton of tutorials, smashed my head on the key board and now... FINALLY. The gig is about making a lead gen system for a recruitment agency. Going preety well so far. Finna hand it over by a day or two. Stick to it folks, work hard. You will eventually see the outcome. God's plan baby

Congrats man !! this is soo motivating :D
First major project done!
Built an automated lead qualification system that analyzes leads, scores them, routes to sales teams, syncs with HubSpot, and sends alerts on Slack. Made sure to add decision logging so we can see WHY each lead got scored the way it did, plus error logging to catch issues before they become problems. Pretty proud that I got it working, but this is my first time building something this size. What would you improve? What am I not thinking about?

@Ryan Nolan I’ll try, but it’s quite late for me (11 PM–12 AM local time), so I might not be able to join.
Just completed the 17-hour n8n Video
Took me about two weeks to get through it, but wow, what a resource. If you're new to n8n like I was, this is exactly what you need. It doesn't just teach you the basics, it gives you a complete foundation to keep building on your own. This is genuinely a full course disguised as a "video." The depth and structure are incredible, and Rayan explains things in a way that actually makes sense. One heads up for anyone without a tech background like me: the HTTP requests and webhooks sections might feel a bit challenging at first. Don't skip them though. I used LLM's such ChatGPT and Gemini to break down the concepts I didn't understand, and it helped me grasp things way better. Seriously grateful for this resource, Rayan. You've created something special here. For anyone on the fence about starting it, just go for it. You won't regret the time investment.

@Ryan Nolan Haha, happy to be the first! Honestly, the course was really solid clear explanations , great pacing and covered a lot. No major feedback, but I'd love to see a full freelancing project walkthrough in the future . Like seeing how you handle everything from client communication to delivery would be super valuable! I'm also having a bit of a hard time finding good projects to practice on, so seeing real examples would definitely help :D
