Quoting and time
Do you guys have any insight on how long it takes to complete a job? For example standard forestry mulching setup for 1 acre? Nothing crazy, pretty flat. How long would this take? I’m trying to gauge this mainly because I will be renting equipment early on and want to make sure I can quote properly to still produce revenue. Bottom line is I don’t want to quote a job at 3k and have a setup for a day when a day rental cost $1900 just to not be able to finish it and have to rent another day and lose my butt. Thanks for any insight. Matt

Just gotta get some reps in to find what works best for your day rate. Austin has a sheet that goes over calculating it on the spreadsheet in the classroom. But on the bright side if you have to rent it 2 days you get 2x the mulching experience and a 5 start review + content + possible referrals even if you break even on the job. And the pain of picing it wrong stings and helps you make a better quote next time. Its also about what rental your getting If i may ask what one your getting, I was renting a 75-3 with a fae but 0 edge on the knives and broken carbides, so it distorted what i thought i could do after my first job. Then i got in a 97-3 and it changed everythingšŸ˜ I also rented a bobcat 7700 and it shredded amazingly but the hydraulic hose broke first day renting it lmao. Some jobs ive been 1 acre of hardwoods and took all day, others done an acre in like 3 hours. best of luck! God Bless.
Small residential jobs.
Do you guys price these out and still use your regular skidsteer. Since im still in the renting equipment phase, should I buy a smaller mulcher for these types of jobs? Or skip them entirely. Thanks. šŸ™

@William Swingle Thats nice, how much does that weigh? I was almost going to ask the group the other day if anyone started this business with a mini-x. My rental guy said hes getting one in at some point so ill try it out on a few jobs.

Hi everybody. My name is Bryan and I am starting a Land clearing business with my brother. I am more the admin side and he is operating side but I need experience operating when we scale or my brother can’t operate. My brother won’t be fully retired from the military until Nov 2027 so he is only available part time. I don’t want to wait launching the company because of how fast this niche business is growing. Is they’re a better option other than renting a machine and mulcher head to get some hours in?

First time i drove one was for my first client. Rental guys show you all the controls and everything its nice. Just dont have them teach you infront of the client.
Man did I have fun on this job…
Carved some trails for a perc test for him. Lots more work to do on his land, but he needed this small phase 1 done first. First time testing a 97-3 with 50 hours and new knives it was amazing…. Compared to the 75-3 I’ve been renting this thing was at least 2x more efficient. It got super dry at the end and I was the creator of dust storms. Makes it disorienting and super unsafe, few times I just had to stop and wait for the dust to clear. This is my 4th job completed since I started start last month. I priced one out and should be getting it here soon, I’ve quoted 65k of jobs so far in a little over a month. Completed 10k worth of jobs so far, I didn’t realize how long it takes for clients to close. They need a decent amount of time and coordination. Thanks to everyone in the group you have been super helpful! Thanks!šŸ™ I know it’s probably busy season and there will be slow seasons, but my projects look good! Anyways, keep grinding boys! Together we conquer!

Was anyone expecting to get more land clearing calls and wind up doing more normal excavation. I love loans clearing but I get a substantially more residential excavation work.

@Dominic Becs It could be your negative keywords too for google ads. I had to make sure to negative excavation and digging. But also, you can make friends with your local digging guy and pass leads back and forth
