✨What to look for in a salon.
One question I get is "Should I rent or find a commission salon?" as a starting question. For those that are getting ready to look for a salon or are questioning their current salon, you want to ask youself these instead: Does the salon energry fit me? What can I contribute to this salon? What education does the salon offer? Is there mentorship? For each of you it will be different. Each of you want different things in a salon space. The salon space can have an amazing sounding commission or rent but can hurt you if you pick the wrong ones. And as we know, the more you move around ... the harder it is to build business. What questions do you have about picking the right salon home?

Coming from someone who was originally booth rent, and now is commission. It’s a huge factor whether or not you get foot traffic, have a website, on google maps, environment! When I made the change from independent to commission the biggest things I looked for were, Education; do they offer it? Do they want you to be continually educating yourself? Can you get involved in being an educator? Hair is ALWAYS evolving and trends are ever changing! Education is so so so important. The second thing I looked for was Mentorship; can I ask questions and feel heard and not “talked at”, is someone going to give me pointers or tips on how to be better at something? I want to be amazing at my job, I don’t want to just settle for the basic education I got in school and be stuck with that. The other thing I wanted to get a feel for was environment! Environment; having a space where you feel loved, supported, confident, smart, and truly (like actually) get along with your coworkers is SOO important on your mental health, your work health, your home life, this effects how you feel about your job 100%!!
Happy Tuesday!!!
Question?? Is everyone else having random slow days at the salon?? I know January is common for that. How do you fill your time other than helping other stylists or chores? What’s the most helpful thing I can be doing? Use a mannequin? Whats the most beneficial thing for you guys? All suggestions welcomed 🤗✔️

Question for the experienced stylists!
If a newer stylist asked you ONE thing about surviving burnout, what would you say?

I would say, trust your gut when it comes to connecting with clients. It means the world to them to feel comfortable and confident with you and your skills! Lean into that! The more you learn to trust yourself the more they do!
